I've heard it in person and (IMO) it's really an epic noise it makes, kinda sounds like the air is being shredded as it passes

Yeah, I've heard it too. Went to Le Mans twice and you'd know which cars went past you with just sound alone. That high pitched turbo whistle off the Audi and the Peugeot was fantastic to hear...then contrasting with a thundering great V8 from the Corvettes

Watching the Spa 6 hours. Good racing, but Audi really aren't at the match at all.

Audi's decision not to go with a heat recovery system biting them on the arse here down roughly 150bhp on its rivals.

Im a bit out of touch with LMP this year, what has Toyota and Porsche done that Audi haven't?

Toyota and Porcshe have two energy recovery systems kers and ers-h both with different energy storage methods super capacitor versus lithium polymer batteries generating up to 6/8MJ per lap.

Audi on the other hand decided to go with just a flywheel based kers system for their energy recovery because of reliability concerns with with their own ers-h system and can only generate 2MJ per lap.

not really sure of the exact horsepower figures but from what i understand its roughly something like this.

Audi, ice:600bhp, kers:250bhp
Toyota, ice:550bhp, kers/ers-h:450bhp
Porsche, ice:600bhp, kers/ers-h:450bhp

And yet while watching the race it seems evident that at any given moment any one of the 3 lmp1-h cars can be faster than the other 2!

The Porches blitzed the start only to fall away with an electrical problem, but still didn't make much ground when this appeared to be resolved.
The Audi was left for dead at the start but finished 2nd and at times was as fast if not faster than the Toyotas.
The Toyota looks in best shape with 2 race wins out of 2, but at times the Audi made easy work of catching up to it or keeping it behind while at other times Audi look like an lmp2 with regards a top speed comparison!

LM24 should be good fun:)
