I could really do with having a tummy tuck and i often say if i had the money it would be the first thing id do. However, when i really think about the pain involved, the risks and the recovery i quickly start thinking that its not such a good idea! So if you could have any cosmetic surgery for free would you??

I want to get my nose fixed, had thought of it years ago and then got my teeth fixed and decided I was fine...now I realise that indeed my nose is as crooked as I originally thought, the thoughts of wedding photos are freaking me out a bit. Freaked out about it going wrong though, my mother has researched nose jobs a million times and can point out a bad one or one that has gone wrong at 50 paces.

I had a necessary surgery on my face - near the eye. A cosmetic surgeon did it due to the fact it's the face. It didn't change how I look but that was part of the aim so it worked! He did a great job. No obvious scarring either.
But I couldn't do any non essential surgery. I had a black eye for a while and from other surgeries I've had after effects of the anaesthetic. Not an easy ride!

If I got a boob job I'd be too worried about them bursting!

Even if the surgery was free. It's not the cost that puts me off though it's expensive too

I've had botox done and I'd consider having my lips done but not for free. I'd so so scared they'd dick it on me and I'd be left with a trout pout.

I had a rhinoplasty done in October 2008. Broke my nose when I was younger and always wanted it fixed so just went ahead and got it done.

I'd love boobs but I'm not loaded :D

As much as theres things about myself that I'd love to change I think when it comes down to it I could never say yes to unneccessary surgury. Be far too worried something would go wrong.

I don't think I'd change anything surgically. Yeah, there's things I wouldn't mind changing, but like many others I'd be terrified of something going wrong. Only if there was a medical reason for it would I get anything done- I can imagine needing a reduction rather than enhancement in the boob area, just because of back problems, but other than that, no.

I have a weird little 'bump' of extra skin under my lower lip, which bugs me sometimes, but it's not that big a deal and I kind of like it- it's unique to me and it doesn't look freaky or anything.

Then again I'm definitely in the "grey hair is hot" camp, so I won't even be dying my hair when it starts to go grey. I figure I'm nearly 30 so once it starts after that it's acceptable and can look very cool. :D

God I'd love to get all the excess fat drained out of me but I'd be too big a scaredy cat!

Liposuction is a scam grr. I'd be the first person to sign up to be fatfree but it's not worth it

Same as bubblefett [EDIT: and all the quick typists since!], I'd be terrified something would go wrong. I think I'd feel a bit guilty too (not saying anyone else should though!) when so many people have to have surgery to save their lives and I'm lucky enough to be healthy...

Eventual aim is obviously just to be really happy with what I have. That's a work in progress!

Nah, it grows back no matter what :(

I was all for post-children tummy-tuck and lippo or whatever else until reading about poor Denise Hendry and now I'm thinking there's enough spanx and push-ups and risk free ways of nipping and tucking that I'd rather not take the risk... :(

Wouldn't want anything done now. I'd like bigger boobs, but most boob jobs look...fake. And I don't really care that much about my practically none existent chest to do anything about it!

I have no problem with cosmetic surgery. It's your body, do whatever you want with it! There are some people I know of who have got very unnecessary cosmetic surgery, though. And then they just end up getting addicted. And most of it ends up looking stupid.

Also I'd much rather pay money towards people who actually need surgery for medical reasons instead of paying for myself to get lipo or whatever.

I'd get a nosejob. There's a teeny bump on my nose which I'm extremely conscious of but everyone else says they don't notice.

i'd get a boob job and plan to end of 2012/13! :D:D:D:D

There are plenty of things I'd love to fix but I don't think I'd actually have surgery unless I could look into the future and know that it was going to turn out ok, no complications, look good etc.

Would love bigger boobs, fuller lips, maybe a nose job. If a magical fairy could come over and just give me that would be perfect :pac:

You know I was just rereading this thread and I realised I'm a bit of a hypocrite. Here's me going "oh no i'd never change anything, unless it was medical" and I have a tattoo! That's cosmetic, it's changing your appearance, and its got just as much a chance of going horribly wrong...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 723 ✭✭✭bfocusd

The only thing I would love to change would be my skin tone, I burn to a crisp if I sit close to a lamp. It's annoying not because I don't get a tan, I've just got really sensitive skin.

Edit: obviously it's not possible, but I keep my fingers crossed :)

Nah, I wouldn't get anything done. I've a bit of a flabby stomach and smallish boobs but they're part of me. I could lose the gut through exercise if I really tried and there's always chicken fillets for my bra:D

*I do suffer from varicose veins, but for now they're grand. If they began getting very sore I would probably get them done, but only for pain relief, not for cosmetic reasons.

Nope. My wobbly, imperfect body is beautiful just the way it is. :)

I'm having breast reduction surgery in 6 weeks, have thought about it for years and always wanted it but was worried about the risks. Finally found a surgeon I'm comfortable with, and have got my head around the pro's v risks... It's the only surgery i've ever considered or wanted

I wouldn't say no to free veneers! If it included the upkeep for life and it was with a really good dentist.

More realistic things I wouldn't mind would be teeth whitening and botox.

I did get LASIK which is between medical and cosmetic, for me anyway. My prescription is not strong but I didn't like wearing glasses, especially when all dressed up so I went for it. Best thing ever!

No, I wouldnt risk my health for the way I look. Unless I was in a fire or had cancer or something and lost an eye or ear or something. I think its really disgusting the way its so accepted now. When I hear of those poor women with the industrial silicone in their tits, really freaks me out. You are never happy anyway, if you are roundy you want to be skinny and if you are skinny you want tits. If you got it then something else would be wrong.

Even veneers on teeth really freak me out, people getting lovely healthy teeth filled down and a crown put on the top of a healty tooth, dont understand that. From somebody with bad teeth, jesus christ why would you do that to a healthy one.

I remember being in another country with a magazine I had been on the plane with and there was ads in the back. The guy looking at it couldnt believe you would have ads like that in a normal magazine. That was a few years ago but I see his point.

Does laser eye surgery count as cosmetic surgery? I would definitely have that done, no more faffing about with contacts. I've never been 100% comfortable wearing glasses, even though I like the ones I have now I still feel like I'm having a scruffy day when I wear them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,540 ✭✭✭Giselle

I've no problem wearing my specs for reading and anything to do with my eyes freaks me out so I wouldn't have laser eye surgery.

I'd love a few inches in height, but while there is an operation to lengthen ones bones, its is agonising, slow, and I'm not that hung up on being a squirt that I'd overcome my crybaby cowardice regarding pain to have it done.

Everything else seems reasonable enough, so I guess I'd pass. I wouldn't be against anyone having surgery if it corrected some crippling insecurity, provided it wasn't too risky.

At the moment, no. Even if it were free and all my friends were coming out looking fab. I like my body even with its funny tummy skin.

But I'd never say never. I'm open to a change of heart on almost anything.

If you have good health Insurance in Argentina you can have cosmetic surgery every 2 yrs... or this is the rumour I heard whilst there!

Anyways wandering certain areas you can start to see a trend towards lots of trout mouths.... Can't imagine what would happen here if VHI,Quinn etc decided to do that!!

And for me I'm not sure ... I'd be convinced somthing would go wrong! However I have had laser eye surgery and best thing ever although for me I was sooooo short sighted I couldn't find my glasses if they weren't in the normal place of right beside the bed!

I'd definitely consider botox in the future. I'm only 20 but I already have two VERY visible frown lines between my eyebrows. :( I'd like a boob job, but I don't have enough of a complex about them to justify spending money I don't have. For free, on the other hand...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,154 ✭✭✭Dolbert

For free? Wouldn't even have it if you paid me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,025 ✭✭✭smallerthanyou

Interesting one. I had a lump on face removed free by a plastic surgeon a good while ago. The scar now looks worse than the lump did! I think peoples expectations can be different than results currently achievable so i wouldn't get surgery. In saying that i've had braces laser hair removal and looking at laser eye so where do you draw the line. Maybe when i'm older looks will upset me and i'll go for it!

I plan to have a boob job when I'm finished having my children.. It's something I've always wanted.
