Basal Metabolic Rate

Would anyone be able to explain the term in the title better? As well as Resting Metabolic Rate(RMR)?

    Wikipedia defines them as:

"Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), and the closely related resting metabolic rate (RMR), is the amount of daily energy expended by humans and other animals at rest. Rest is defined as existing in a neutrally temperate environment while in the post-absorptive state. In plants, different considerations apply."

Now using about 5 different calculators online, I'm given figures of between 2000 and 2200 calories/day.

Now according to the above definition, would an extended period of eating below this value lead to being run-down and having a lack of energy? I cut my eating down majorly and substituted in water, and I am definately eating below this and I have rarely, if at all felt hungry.

    Diet-wise my normal day is:

Breakfast: Double portion of kellogs crunchy nut with soya milk and a mocha.

Lunch: Chicken baguette with butter, lettuce and red onions. (chicken is mass produced stuff with a thin layer of something, similar to chicken nuggets coating)

Dinner: Whatever is on the plate :P (student living at home!) Usually consists of potatoes, meat and a few veg.

Apart from that, lots of water, I would more than likely averaging the 2 litre mark.

Exercise-wise I walk about on average 8-9k steps per day mon-fri and 2-3k on saturdays and sundays, with 3 days doing mainly fast step aerobics with 2kg weights in each hand, every beat to music is 1 step and 1 rep on 1 arm (music is between 150-180 beats per minute) for like 40-60 minutes, interspersed with some light squats, push ups, crunches, and whatever else I can manage to do with 2kg weights and objects i find around the house to lift :P And I'm feeling much stronger and my arms and legs look visibly larger.

Thanks for the explanations and help to any who reply :)

Bmr is the calories you would burn just by living ie lying in bed for 24 hours. The problem is when you start loosing weight your bmr goes lower and u will have to adjust your calories appropriately. If you were to eat under your bmr allowance as well as exercise, you should in theory loose weight. This is a very simplified view though
