Have any of you tried any of the different varieties of these? Are they effective?

I've ordered a bottle of 50mg strength. I've read the standard is about 35/37 though. It did say on the website only to use the 50 if you have a lot of weight to lose, which I do.

I wanted to lose the weight purely through diet and exercise but I'm just too over weight. I put my back out last week trying to do squats! Stupid exercise DVD!

You know you can't ask about drugs on this board.

Easy squats: stand holding onto a door frame or strong post, and squat holding onto the frame/post for support. This takes out the balance element from the squat, while allowing you to focus on pushing through your heels to rise up from the squat.

Walk lots. Walking is great for general health and calorie burning. From your point of view, the good news is that more overweight you are, the more effect you'll see from every mile walked.

Sorry. I thought diet pills were allowed. Thanks for the advice :)

Supplements are sort of the grey area, so you'll get a lot of discussion about fish oil and multi-vits and creatine and whey, but drugs are definitely not allowed.

If you are on drugs, you need to talk to your doctor.

In addition to what EileenG has said, phentermine is not just a 'diet pill'. It is a highly abusable stimulant, controlled under the same legislation as speed, coke and heroin. It's a similar chemical family to amphetamines. Think 'Requiem for a Dream', only it's not even prescribed in Ireland at all.
If the gardaí or customs intercept your parcel, you'll be in serious trouble. If you've only just ordered, you should try to cancel - maybe block the credit card transaction.

Added to that is the fact that you have no idea of the quality of stuff you get on the internet. Let's face it, someone who's prepared to sell illegal drugs may not have many scruples about poor quality control.

Please don't take them - it's way too big a risk. If you can't cancel the transaction and the stuff isn't intercepted, crush the tablets/dismantle the capsules and flush them down the toilet. Not trying to be holier than thou here, it's just not safe.

Wasn't phentermine part of the infamous 'fen-phen' drug that caused organ failure and resulted in a class-action law-suit of 13 billion dollars?

Saw a woman on a documentary that had only years to live after being prescribed the drug. So sad.

Evil stuff OP. Fact is there has never ever been one single weight loss drug that hasn't had really severe side effects.

Yes - fen-phen was fenfluramine and phentermine.

Both fenfluramine and phentermine were withdrawn from the prescription drug market in Ireland in 1996 because of safety concerns.

That drug is not good news. Get up and exercise and eat a healthy diet like everyone else who wants to lose weight properly and the weight will come off. Sorry but "I'm just too over weight" is just an excuse.

Wow there's certainly a big difference between some of the claims made here and the claims made on the website. Very confusing stuff. Thanks for the input everyone.

The pills did arrive. I contacted customs to make sure they are legal here as that was really worrying me. Turns out there was issues in the past with customs but they're not banned anymore. There's no smoke without fire though so I flushed them!

    Thanks for the update Whiplashy.

The mail order supply of phentermine is definitely still illegal, both because it remains classified as a prescription only drug under the Medicinal Products (Prescription and Control of Supply) Regulations (dating from the time when it was available in Ireland) and more importantly because it's classified as Schedule 3 under the Misuse of Drugs Regulations. Maybe the customs guy was confusing it with something else that's non-prescription. The mail order of non-prescription drugs stopped being illegal in the last couple of years, but phentermine is not in that category.

But the more important point is its clinical safety. Really glad you've decided not to take them; it's not worth the risk.

You WILL make it by diet and exercise alone, eventually. EileenG gave some great advice above, and the stickies have good solid diet info, which is more than half the battle. Remember, you probably put on the excess weight over several years, so you've got to give yourself a reasonable timeframe to lose it too, but if you stick to it you'll get there. And your achievement will be all the sweeter - and more sustainable - if you've managed it through developing new, good diet and exercise patterns. Best of luck!
