Calories when eating primal

    Hi,

Just wondering, when eating primal-y (not sure how to phrase that!), should I also be watching my calories and eating a 400-500cal deficit to aid weightloss?
Or, does following a primal diet, and only eating when hungry and stopping when full, work on its own without watching calories too?

Also, a second question, does anyone have any high fibre suggestions that fit in with a primal diet? I am eating heaps of veg, but still feel like some extra fibre would be good.

And thirdly, myfitnesspal and the stickies above both give a very different total for my daily calorie needs (difference of approx 300cals).
The calculations linked to in the stickies above recommend I eat 300 more calories than the 1500 that myfitnesspal is telling me.
    ...Which would be more accurate?

    Thanks in advance!

Will be interested in reading the replies here as I am transitioning to primal and not losing any weight.
I would go with the calculation from the stickies. MFP in my exp goes too low, says I should be on 1200!
If you'd like my MFP username drop me a pm, good to have nutritionally like minded friends!

what goes in must come out - its as simple as that, primal will allow you eat bigger quantities of good foods and cause you to eat more healthily but won't help you lose weight unless you burn more cals than you put in. I think you will find yourself losing a bit of fat slowly anyway, as its a lot lower in carbs than most other diets.

Flax seed and coconut are very high in fibre and primal.

Usually on primal style diets cals take care of themselves. They do for me, and my natural appetite is at a normal level when I eat this way.

But sometimes you need to practice what the japanese call hara hatchi bu, which involves being mindful of when your body is telling you that you are full. Sometimes this mechanism breaks down after years of overeating, we are so used to over-riding our real appetite from the hedonic stimulation of hyperpalatable foods.

It is basically invoked when you stop eating when 80% full. Usually after 20 minutes the brain catches up with the stomach and you are full.
