Personally I would rate the Castrol Edge above the Mobil, seems to be used more by manufacturers but at the end of the day spec is the same.

The reason the Edge is appearing cheaper is there's 20% off at the moment and also it's a 4 litre jar as oppossed to the Mobil which is 5 litres. Normally in Halfords the Edge stuff is more expensive than Mobil.

Check what's the capacity of your car, may work out cheaper if it's over 4 litres to purchase the Mobil 5 litre as sometimes 1 litre of Edge can be €20.

The Castrol is fine. I wouldn't see any reason to buy the Mobil 1 over the Castrol.

I was only using the Halfords link for an example. I buy my oil from a Wholesaler.

Mobil 1 is supposed to be "proper" synthetic oil while the Castrol is hydrocracked oil.

I'd go for the Castrol if it was cheaper. It's perfect for a 2.0 TDI.

I am servicing my car shortly and I am debating which oil to use. I can buy Castrol edge for nearly half the price of Mobil 1 esp. Should I shed out the extra 30 euro and get the Mobil 1. I service it every 15k..

I wouldn't bother paying more for Mobil 1 Corkie, I use it myself alright, but only because I need 5.5L and I refuse to go with the scam of 4L containers of castrol.

I wouldn't rate Castrol over Mobil 1 myself, its all marketing rubbish, once oil meets the spec then its perfect to use.

BTW, it might interest you to know that since the BP incident some manufacturers switched to Mobil from Castrol :)

BTW Corkie where are you getting your oil cheap and how much a litre?

Unless your getting a trade price you would do well to beat the discounted halfords price on castrol edge, especially if you have the axa discount as well which surprisingly they will apply to the discounted price.
