    Hi,
Can anyone give me some suggestions for a healthy easy protein breakfast.
I'm looking at changing my diet and moving away from the usual bowl of porridge every morning.
Recent articles I have been reading suggest protein based breakfasts are the way to go with help losing weight? (obviously as part of a exercise regime etc)
    Many Thanks in advance.
    Bren

Yep high protein diets are very good for losing weight.

My protein based breakfasts would usually consist of cheesy omelettes, or scrambled eggs... or the the kind of breakfasts you would get in Turkey. A cold platter of cheeses, fruits and cooked meats (sliced ham, parma ham, chicken, turkey etc.)

If I'm cutting (which I am now), then I use half fat cheese and (in an omelette) one or two whole eggs with 2-3 egg-whites... probably some chicken in there too.

A fry with eggs and bacon is pretty good too (no bread/sausages/pudding), just if its streaky bacon make sure you fry/grill it crispy.

If I'm in a rush I'll have a protein shake with berries, but be warned... these do not fill you at all.

If I'm being lazy I'll just put a scoop of protein into (a reduced amount of) porridge, add some berries and hey presto. Though not ideal, this technically is high protein and does fill you.

I make oatmeal pancakes. Add a bit of cinnamon too for that extra kick. Delish

As I don't like eggs this is an easy way of getting them into my diet.

I used to have the same every day, a boiled egg and then a slice of ham with some cheese melted on top (30 secs in micro).
Currently I'm trying to get more veg so have sautéed spinach, mushroom and cherry tomatoes with a fried egg and a slice of ham. Doesn't take long to make - 7 mins from start to table.

It's actually more about the fat and less about the protein that is vital. Hence why whole eggs are good

Paleo bar packed with coconut oil ftw also

I often use trail mix and coconut milk, lots of protein, quick and filling.

Cottage Cheese with Tomatoes and black pepper..! Very quick.. Low fat tesco one is best mix of protein and fat content for weight loss imo.

+1 on the cottage cheese. Cheap as chips and a whole tub comes out at about 26grms protein. I have mine with loads of different berries though and a tiny drizzle of honey. Great if u can't handle major savoury tastes in the morning.

Failing that, scramble eggs or any kind of eggs is yer only man. I've also been making protein pancakes for breakfast too. Super tasty, mash one banana or 2, mix up 4 eggs, 2 scoops unflavoured protein powder and some almond flour about half a cup (ground almonds) use some coconut milk to alter the consistency a bit then fry them on a pan. Super tasty with some berries on top!

How much protein in those pancakes??

There would actually be less protein than you think in that - more fat (coconut milk) and carbs depending on whats in the trail mix. Some trail mix comes with crap like sesame sticks and chinese cracker things etc. Nuts themselves are not all that high in protein

    Eggs, cottage cheese, meats, cheese

Id also plus one with transform and go along and say fat over protein

There would be roughly about 70grams in the whole mix so I you made say 7 pancakes from each batch looking at about 10 grams in each one

Why is that? Just in the morning?

    Thanks.

    No all meals.

Shovelling more protein in does not for many people
have the same effect on feeling full or satisfied as getting in plenty of fats

Many Thanks for the reply guys.
food for though (sorry couldn't resist! :) )
one further question... if you make up your own museli using just oats, mixed nuts, seeds and berries etc. would this constitute a protein based brekkie (i.e. getting to the point, are oats considered a protein or a carb??).

Oats are primarily a carb unfortunately!

My breakfast is a half carton of egg white 250g, a scoop of myofusion and water blended, tastes like chocolate milshake and utterly jammed with protein!!

Could egg white powder be ok to use as a source of protein in the morning? Could it say be added to a pancake mix along with one egg to boost protein or would the heat from cooking render it useless perhaps??

There's a recipe on boards for linseed bread, I have a few slices of that in the morning with some cheeses & dried meats. Brilliant for filling you up & great source of roughage if your going to go low carb! Also high in Omega 3, cheese & meats give you your protein.

    Missed this question sorry.

Yeah, well losing fat specifically. I'm on a cyclical diet so my weight on average is going up slightly (muscle).

Though I think if you're gonna go the half-fat cheese /egg-white route I reckon you pretty much have to be weighing/counting nearly everything you eat. As Transform has said it's the fat to a large degree that keeps us full, and to that end for general weight-loss, where you're not fiddling with scales and calculators, you're much better cutting down your slices of bread than cutting out your yolks. Egg yolks are nutritionally obscene (in the good way), egg whites on the other hand, while containing very high quality protein, have little else in them.
