Something that is just over 20 mins long that can fill a gap when nothing else is on. Thinking of of either of these 2 from what I saw somewhere else 30 rock or Party Down don't really know much about either.

Here are a few I have seen and liked
I have nearly finished How I met your mother loved the early series not so much the recent ones which are very hit and miss.
Like How to make it in America
    Entourage
    Arrested development
    Office/extras
    Us Office
    Didn't really like Community
    Frasier
    Simpsons/friends etc

    Always Sunny in Philadelphia?

Has to be one of the best comedy shows ever. Takes while to get rolling but once it does, it's impressive.

Parks and Rec is another one, the first season is really just building characters for the rest of the seasons, but it is pretty funny.

On the same note, last two I 've seen that I loved were Peep Show and Curb, anything since then in a similar vein and of a similar quality that I missed out on?

I love peep show (one of fav comedies ever) - curb not as much.

Party Down is a great show, do give it a go :) I'd also recommend Parks & Rec and Happy Endings too, both take a few episodes to get going, but are well worth it. Black Books is brilliant as well.

Have you watched many episodes of Community? The tone changes a lot throughout the first season and it gets a lot better. If you've only watched the first few eps, there would be no harm giving it another look.

Watched the first 10 episodes or so - will they won't they get together, didn't find chevey that funny and the motherly figure either. Maybe a bit tame for my liking

If you're after something that's not tame, then It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia should fit the bill. It's not tame at all, in fact it's the opposite. Jokes about paedophilia, dead kids, cancer, etc Nothing is safe! It's very very funny despite that.

As someone who watched community during season 1& 2
Id skip those and just watch the first 10 episodes of Season 3

Its quality stuff and much improved on previous seasons

Give Community another go, you have to let the characters grow on you. Happy Endings needs a few episodes to get going but is very funny. Modern Family
    Big Bang Theory
    Parks & Recreation
    2 Broke Girls
    New Girl

You could try the Inbetweeners about 4 school boys trying to get drunk and get laid. Not very serious but very funny. One of the characters is a bit like a younger Mark from Peep Show and a lot of the show is narrated from his point of view. As someone else has mentioned Black Books is great and if some comedy shows are too tame, try The Thick of It which has the most inventive swearing I've ever come across. It's political, like a modern version of Yes Minister (still a classic) with an obnoxious Alaister Campbell type character at the centre of it all. Brilliant stuff

Party Down is great and you should give Community another chance it gets better as it goes on

I like Raising Hope which is on it's second season now and for the new comedies I quite like New Girl and Suburgatory

Just started watching both of these this week and both are very good shows, really enjoying them so far.

Would throw in a recommendation for Parks and Rec too. Lighter show, but very enjoyable and watchable.

I'd watch Frasier again I have watched a few episodes twice and there is more jokes that you would only get the second time around.

    Again, very good stuff.

My favourite American comedy is Eastbound and Down. Everyone should have a look at it. See below for a great 30 second clip

If you enjoy Californication I'd recommend reading Charles Bukowski. The producers of the series have pretty much taken his character Henry Chinanski and put him on film. Have a look at his quadrilogy of books: "Post Office", "Factotum", "Women" and "Ham on Rye".

Spaced is great. Peep show's creators made a show called Fresh Meat this year that was pretty good. Louie is great too, first season was good, second season became a completely different brilliant thing. Bored to Death was just cancelled but there are 3 good seasons of it.

Outnumbered, one of those series I avoided but when I sat down finally to watch it I got a pleasant surprise, the comedy is quite smart.

    Some shows not named yet:)

    Limmy's Show

Probably one of the best sketch shows of the last decade.

    Rev

Gentle but very funny comedy with the excellent Tom hollander and Olivia Coleman.

    Bellamy's People

Radio host meets his loyal fans, loads of Fast show people involved.

    Delocated

Best US comedy since Arrested Development.

    Stewart Lee Comedy Vehicle

What it says in the title.

    15 Storey's high

Sean Lock comedy from about a decade or so ago with contributions from Mark Lamaar. Easily the best thing both have ever done and probably one of the most underrated British comedy's ever.

Here are some of my favourites:

Curb Your Enthusiasm - Seasons 1 to 5, anything after that just became very repetitive.
Peep Show - Cringeworthy comedy at it's best.
Spaced - Great for Star Wars nerds
30 Rock - Alec Baldwin steals the show, a comic genius
American Office - Steve Carrell is very good

I can't think of the name of the Irish comedy, about these twenty something guys living in a small town, one of them was called the Viper. Very impressed with that show, great comedy moments and some characters you'd recognise from your own town.

Curb is my favorite. If we're not strictly speaking sitcoms you could watch "That Mitchell and Webb Look" or whatever it's called, Mitchell and Webb's BBC sketch show.

The IT Crowd is definitely one of the better ones around. If you're really stuck you could even watch "S*#! my Dad Says" with William Shatner. It looks awful at first glance but it has some decent gags.

Yeah, I just started watching Party Down based on this thread am not feeling it at all so far.

As already mentioned Outnumbered is well worth a watch. One of the few shows with believable kids dialogue delivered with great comic timing.

Enjoyed the first season of Fresh Meat, JP is a great character (especially as he was hated by most at first, really grows on you - "Davros!" )

Of the american shows, Modern Family is consistently good.

I found that I started really enjoying it from the third episode myself, but everyone has different tastes!

Watched all of The Thick of It over the weekend, absolutely fantastic show.

Halfway through season two now and it has a certain 'just one more' quality to it.

Okay looking for some more recommendations since I started this thread - 20-30 mins comedies.
Since this thread have watched and really enjoyed.
The League - my fav -really enjoyed this
Its always sunny - on series 6 now can be hit and miss
Eastbound and down - very good
    Don't trust the b*tch - shame only 7 episodes
    Party Down - was alright

    Ones not that pushed on
Parks and Recreation - don't really like the main character
    Community

Have seen most the big ones I can think of.
    Arrested development
    US Office- excellent
    Office
    Fresh Meat- really liked it
    Inbetweeners
How I met your mother - not as good as it was
    Coupling
    Frasier
Curb your ent - don't really like

I think you can see a trend of the ones I like so any new recommendations?
