Hey guys just wondering do you know of any where in Ireland that would stock the likes of Inov8 F-Lite 230's or New Balance Minimus T10's or runners suitable for crossfit.

You'd get Merrell Trail Gloves in Schuh. Most specialist running shops have zero/minimal drop shoes - Amphibian King stock inov8 and vibrams as far as i know. think Runways on Parnell Street have a selection of minimalist shoes too.

Cons would work too at a stretch.

Google Inov8 and search by Distributers in Ireland.
I believe 53 Degrees North will get them in for you.

I've always bought mine from the UK as no Irish Suppliers have beaten them on price.

53 Degrees North dont have any in stock but basecamp middle abbey street do there just a hassle to get to. Id order online if I knew the size would be perfect as I vary depending on runner.

wiggle.co.uk would be your best bet for Inov8s

£83.03 for blue/black 230s + Free Delivery is not bad at all.
    No green though ;)

The cheapest I ever got them was for £70 delivered but that site has put the price up since the popularity grew.

sorry for the ignorance folks but why do you need special runners for cross-fit ??

i see hanley says zero/minimal drop shoes - does that mean a small sole on the shoe ? i.e. so there isn't much flex under squats or that ?? does cross-fit incorporate heavy lifts ???

I always find uninformed people ask the best questions about Crossfit. Such as:

Whay do you need special shoes?

Why don't you just do normal pullups?

    and my favourite...

What the fuck are you doing?

Thats exactly it your regular asics trainers for example are too unstable for squatting with weights etc
And yes cross fit does incorporate heavy lifts from over head squats to deadlifts for example.

    thanks for that funnyclub.

I know people recommend squatting in special shoes or in bare feet etc.. I squat in assics gel runners - I only do light squats now of 70KGs (back issue) and have never found any stability issues at that light weight.

are you new to cross-fit or at it a long time ?? sometimes when people start a new sport they can be quick to jump in head first and buy the very best of everything and then as you spend longer at it, sometimes you realise it isn't necessary. I hope that doesn't sound condescending - I had a 2k euro pair of wheels on a bicycle at one stage - so I am speaking from my own experience!

I have to say I wouldn't mind trying cross-fit myself, only thing that would put me off is the pricing. I think I'm reasonably fit, in the sense that I could cycle 160kms handy enough say, and I think I'm reasonably strong and in good shape - BUT - I think i'd be bunched doing cross-fit as the nature of the training looks very different to anything I do or have ever done.

I am only at it about 2 months. For regular squatting normal shoes are fine but when doing over head squats you really need the stability for example tonight i was only doing 40kg over head squats but we were doing a work which was 21/15/9 so 21 of each exercise, 15 and 9. So 21 over head squats at 40kg followed by 21 ring dips and 21 wall balls with 8kg medicine ball followed by 15 of each then 9. I ended up taking my asics off and going bare foot half way through the 21 over head squats as my balance was going and found it better bare foot but I would prefer to be wearing shoes so thats why I am getting the inov8's as I intend sticking with crossfit :)

The dude with 2k wheels on his bike thinks CF is too expensive :D

I dunno... I think if you've the cash to splash on shoes etc, go for it. Like you should have them a long ass time, but they're not absolutely necessary either.

I power cleaned 120kg in a pair of Saucony runners FFS... it wasn't nice and I bitched about it, but I did it. THen again I also spent 200 quid on a pair of Adidas lifting shoes... so who am I to talk!

i find most of these shoes to be a gimmick tbh. i mean if you want minimal just buy a pair of solid runners with a very thin sole. i've a pair of nikes that cost €35 locally with a really thin sole so it's pretty close to being barefoot.

having said that though as long as you aren't doing serious mileage in the runners if you splash out id imagine they'd last quite some time anyway so not going to be the biggest dent to the wallet by any stretch

We've had quite a few people looking for shoes to suit Cross-Fit.

Many come looking for the iNOV-8 F-Lite range which vary in price from €120 to €140 for some of the Bare-XF range. While we don't carry a stock of them we can have them in store within a couple of days for people and we can accurately size from the Roclite range of trail shoes.

Just to give you an alternative, the Mizuno Musha racing flat is a perfect shoe for Cross fit purposes. It has a low profile, 6mm drop and uses a firm EVA foam to provide stability and support. Given the option, the Cross Fitters who call in have chosen this as their training shoe. The new Musha 4 is €95 and there are some of last year's Musha 3 clearing on the Amphibian King website.

    Hope that helps.

    Excuse the ugnirance, but why?

I'm not sure what inov8s are, so might be missing something obvious

Cos they're not the most solidly constructed shoe...

Ah, guessed it was something like that.
Said I'd ask in case there was a funny story or video to go with the advice

I saw some Merrell barefoot runners in TK Maxx last week (Stephen's Green). All one size (41 US if I remember and going for €50 odd). TK don't stock items consistently but worth keeping an eye out for them at that price if you're interested in buying them

€120 is the UK and Ireland RRP. Seems fair to me.
