Alright guys. I am a regular gym goer but hust before christmas I had surgery and hadnt gone to the gym in a while. Went back on Monday and did my usual full body workout which contains mainly compound exercises such as bench, squat, bent over row, deadlift etc. Woke up on tuesday morning with really bad soreness in my hamstrings which was from the squats I presume. Then I woke up this morning still with the hamstring and generally leg soreness but also had bad soreness in my upper forearms. I have taken the protein shakes and glutamine but still have barely been able to move and will probably be unable to do the rest of my workouts for the week which I amnt happy about. Is there any ways to avoid this as I am a very competitive golfer and havent got the time to be this sore as I cant practice either?.

If you haven't been to the gym for a while then I'm thinking it's fairly natural you're going to feel it when you do go back. If I take so much as a week off I have to go through the motions when I start up again and for some reason the strain is always much worse on the second day, rather than the first day after.
Unless your doctor advises you differently stick with the workout, just maybe extend your rest days and in a week or so you should be feeling ok again.

(I'm not a pro just giving feedback based on my own routine)

I have been doing mostly classes for the past few months. On Monday I started a new "proper" programme like yourself and I'm unbelieveably sore, had to take a neurofen last night before bed.

Op you have DOMS or delayed onset muscle soreness. It's a common feature of resistance training and is a symptom of exposing your muscles to strain and load. It can be worse with high rep, when you move at high velocities or when you train new exercises. Things like going for a walk of stretching after your session can assist in recovery and help to reduce them.
