You can add me...looking forward, on the way home from work and since I seem to be working late so much these days I'll have a much better chance of making these races than the other winter leagues in north dublin

Can anyone run these or do you have to be part of the Fit4Life group?

For anyone who couldn't collect their prize at the awards night, I'll have them with me on Thursday for Round 1, just give me a shout.

Anyone doing this this evening? Going to give the Vibrams their first race run out surface permitting - what kind of a surface is the race on?

I'm going to give it a lash, first time running any distance other than 5km so should be interesting.

I was hoping to do it, I haven't raced since Stephens day!!! (which for me must be a record ha, over a month!!!). But my calves are in bits from training the other night, even walking up and down the stairs in work is a struggle so no point ha! I'll be down for a while to help out though.

2 crocks from the committee helping out so

Great turn out this evening at a chilly Charlesland, 96 finishers.
Mikey Kavanagh finished 1st in 10:19, followed home by our own Pre.
Results will probably be up later tonight or tomorrow (round 1 always takes the longest).

Great turnout on a really cold night.

Beepbeep was that you in a Bray top behind the table at registration?

Apologies our regular data steward (<cough, cough> Timmaay) ;) is otherwise occupied, I'm collecting the results today and will have them up late afternoon.

So Billy made this a 5k this evening, measured to the yard I believe :) Mike Kavanagh took the win in 16:39 on a hilly course, full results up later

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭AJCOT

Thanks to all for a great race, why do people pay silly entry fees when you can run a stunning course & get fed for a fiver? Sli Cualann abu!

And results now up on slicualann.com.

https://www.facebook.com/events/295041417229351/ And the outdoor season kicks off!! With the Olympics taking place at the end of July, the track season is abit earlier this year!, This is a good low key race to get out there and see where you stand at the minute!

I'd be happy to host a Fit4Life in Annacurra later in the year. We've a new trail loop of c. 2.25k. 2 or 3 loops of that might do the trick. Would suit a summers evening or a Saturday later in the year perhaps.

I'll be down helping, expecting a decent turn out.
    There'll be several time categories.

I'm still a bit undecided on what time category to go with. After a few weeks with no running my target is 5:30, I know I'd have done that at the start of the year, not as sure now.

Would it be better to go with the sub 5:30 and try to hang onto the back of the group or try and lead out the 5:30 to 6:00 category?

You'll typically go faster if you have similar abilities around you (once you pace the 1st 2 laps correctly) - I would expect the sub 5:30 to be won in and around 4:40

Thing is when I've done intervals with the club, I've been fastest on the nights when there's only fast runners out and I'm the slowest one there. Decisions, decisions :)

What's the decorum for fit4life races: club colours or whatever takes your fancy? Think there'll be a few runners in the 5:00-5:15 range?

Clowns have to wear the full clown outfit, with Sideshow Bob hair and oversized shoes and all, just to bring them back to everyone else's level :D

For the mile under lights, has to be wrap around shades, crop top and budgie smugglers!

    Smart feckers. :D

The prizes for the night are done on overall time anyways, so no great incentive to sandbag ha! From a quick look back at the results from the last races (slicualann.com only has the overall times, but I still have the individual race results on the laptop), but anyways, the sub5.30 had 17 runners, with slowest time 5.20, and the 5.30-6.30 was won in 5.37, so its your choice!

We did had afew people taking the piss though, and running the 7-8min in 5.40 or so last year, tonight I'll be less tolerant of this ha, anyone obviously in their wrong grade will be removed!!!

Scenes below form last year's mile when Timmaay found a sandbagger in his race.

Great turn out tonight 100+ catered for across 7 races.
Fastest time of the night Jamie Cullen with 4:40 - full results due up later.

Fantastic that there are committed volunteers like Beepbeep, Timmaay and the other volunteers on the night who made this a superb event. My first track race, and I really enjoyed every moment. Thanks folks.

Scary physic abilities with your winning time prediction there :)

I have to echo the clown, great event, really well organised, definitely want to try some more track now after that, maybe next time off a bit more training.

Great times by Timmay and Krusty, although there was no sign of either the whole clown outfit or the wrap around shades, crop top and budgie smugglers so I don't know can we trust the sub 5 claim :D

Funny enough, 2mins before the race I was talking to 1 of the other lads, we were close to laying down money ha, I predicted the top4 bang on as they happened to finish, with the 2 Greystones kids in ahead of me! It was a close finish though ha! On hindsight, why the hell did I doubt myself before the race had started!!, my time was ok, but I knew I had a bad race and could have pushed harder in the 3rd and 4th lap, and certainly came in 2nd!

Anyways, these are what the early low key track races are for, to get the bad races out of the way, and mentally sharpen up, and its great to be back on the track now after a long winter of xc!

Right ok, we move onto Round 4 now, which is a lovely fast flat 3k around Shananagh Park, near Bray! Most of the Info is on the SliCualann Website here, I have also putup a facebook event here

Dominic, do you know what the course for this is, do ya have a garmin trace of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,550 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

Damnit, could you not give me a couple of weeks recovery from Boston? On my home turf too?!

Start near south end of temporary works fence in railway field - run anticlockwise into north side of middle field.
At entry into road field take a left and run clockwise - 1k mark shortly after this, around this field and straight onto north side of middle field as before but in opposite direction.
At entry into railway field take a right and run around this field anticlockwise as per the start - 2k mark shortly after this.
Just over a full lap of the railway field and you are finished.
All of this is on the tarmac path and is red hot fast.

Except the bit between the [Start] and [Finish] markers which is a temporary path surface (road chippings).

Jebus you're getting tetchy during your taper ;) - about 300mts on the chippings slightly downhill so wear the Continentals :D

Too right. I'd better go do my recovery run and top up the endorphin levels!
