I have used protein shakes for years. always mixede them at home with a blender but need to make them up on the go now.
if you just add powder to a sports container mix with water and shake in a container than has a mesh at the top does that leave lumps in the shake or does it depend if it a protein shake, mass gainer etc???

Nino - some protein powders will never mix and other mix with a few gentle shakes - depends on the brand.

However most will and should mix in a shaker.

Tip is add the water first and then the powder - therefore if requiring more than one shake on the go - take powder in other plastic container or second shaker and get the water/milk on the go so it's cold when you want it etc.

The third alternative is to get a thermos flask and mix at home and bring it with you but this may not always be practical.

what iv been told and i follow as a rule if your protein doesn't brake down easily enough in a shaker its a poor quality protein..if you pre-blend it and carry it in a flask the protein will brak down over time and you Ar not getting the proper amount you need.

where do you get your 100% whey protein ?!

OP: decent protein should mix just fine in a shaker. I've found isolate doesn't mix as well as the concentrate stuff though (and cassein is even worse again).

No it wont break down (and if it did what would it break down to???!).

    Pre mixing is fine.

Sorry to hijack thread but a quick query re Protein shakesomeone recomend a good quality protein for after gym. Something that tastes good, not too expensive. Something I can ad to oatmeal pancakes in morning too would be ideal.

Oh and to keep it on topic, one that does not have lumps:D

    cheers

    THanks for that JOhn Cappa.

As its my first foray into protein shake consumption I intend to go local and buy in store until I know what I am doing and then perhaps buy in bulk online.

When buying what should I look out for content wise. My intent is to lose a bit of weight through running (about 1-2 stone, currently 6'4 and 16 stone) and tone up and add muscle through working out in the gym.

What wold be your recomendations?? Again sorry about the hijack!!

It's true. Your mitochondria can only respond to non clumpy protein particles. Too clumpy and it results in an odd number of macros which means you catabolise muscle mass. Carrying pre-mixed protein particles in a flask results in a chemical reaction whereby the protein turns into sugar which as we know in science terms is known as "protein-1", meaning you are drinking negative protein. If you drink too much negative protein you run the risk of developing a lisp.

Look for a high protein content (70%+) and a good price! Simple as that.

If you can buy on line then buy either 5 kg of Banana whey from bulk powders. Cheap as can be really.

If buying from the high street then Optimum Nutrition would be my choice but this is going to very expensive by comparison.

Is the protein place on upper Camden street any good? It's the closest place to me.

Online will be cheapest from a UK bulk supplier.

No idea about the place you mention but I assume it will just be selling all the usual brands so would be fine.
