Feedback on Markievicz Leisure Centre & other city center gyms?

Am looking to join a gym in Dublin 1 or 2. I live in the IFSC, so ideally I would like it to be within a decent (and safe) walking distance to home.

Anyone have any experience of the Markievicz Leisure Centre & gym on Townsend St? It seems to be the only gym in town with a pool. That is very important to me. I took a tour today. The pool and work out areas look about average, but the showers and changing areas looked a bit basic on my tour.

Membership for a year is only 299 euros. That includes full access to the pool, workout areas, all classes offered, and 8 one on one session a year with a trainer to assess your fitness levels, goals etc. It seems like a good deal, but I'd really like some feedback before I part with my dineros.

There is another gym attached to the National College at the Mayor Sq LUAS stop. But after my tour I didn't think that the facilities warranted the fees, plus it is closed on weekends.

Any feedback on these 2 gyms, or any other city center gyms/fitness centers would be much appreciated. :)

SAno Vitae is probably perfect for you. The one you took a tour of i would say is SV Fitness, different gym. Sano vitae has the pool etc, it's a little pricey... but to be honest Markovietz is a kip. Used it maybe twice. Awful place.

Communal showers in the Markievicz. I was always terrified I'd run into a work colleague in there :-/

Thanks optimistic, I just checked out the SanoVitae website and am doing a tour of it later today. It looks much nicer than the MC, but as it is twice the price I guess you get what you pay for. I'll be showering at home after wards, so the state of the showers doesn't really bother me. The security and cleanliness of the changing room does.

I think the Trinity Gym is still open for membership. A few people in my place go there and they've said it's a great gym.

Yes they do, the only problem with trinty is it can get very busy.

I went to college in Trinity and have since joined their gym on the alumni rates which are really reasonable, check out http://www.tcd.ie/Sport/membership/corporate.php
I live in the IFSC too and it's only about 10 mins walk which is really handy, it's does get quite packed, even in the mornings when I went, but during the summer it's practically empty.
