Alternative diets?

I've been experimenting with various training programs and diets over the past while.

Firstly was an increase in proteins and fats, and decrease in carbs, as I was made aware that the former are muscle and body fiber building blocks, and should therefore take precedence over carbs, which basically pass through the body (giving energy of course), but don't contribute to actual growth.

I always try to get in enough fruit and veg, from a cellulose point of view, just to keep the system clear, and make going to the toilet easy and stress free.

The antioxidants in the veg and stuff help with avoiding lactic acid build up as well, I find.

So basically, what I've outlined so far is something inclined toward what is known as the "Atkins" diet, if I'm correct?
    Basically protein/fat increase, carb reduction.

Well, it's been good in the sense that I stay very lean, and do develop well.

But one diet plan that I read recently came as somewhat of a surprise.

Now, I've never been a HUGE eater myself; I tend to eat small a few times a day.

But what this outlined was that, to increase energy levels and reduce fatigue, to eat relatively big, one time per day, and eat small portions in between and thereafter.

    Like, very small.

What I've been doing is say, in the morning I would have a small'ish breakfast.
A small bowl of oats, or a pint of milk, couple banana's and a muffin; something like that.

At around one, I'd have a small meat sandwich (whole wheat) with some veg or salad, and some milk.

Then, weight training at about 3 or 4 o clock; afterwards I'd have my main meal, which is like a full dinner.
Good serving of pasta, meat (fatty usually, with a lot of spices/sauce) and veg (steamed).

    Later, back to small consumption.
Banana's, glasses of milk, chocolate, biscuits, protein shake etc.

Anyways, what I'm asking is, is anyone familiar with the above diet; where it's like one big main meal, and smaller intake thereafter?
As I said, it's aim is to increase energy levels without compromising hugely in other area's, really.

Or any other dietary preferences they have found beneficial?

My main goal as far as training goes, is progress.

The traditional school of thought has always been "eat as much as possible, get as much rest as possible".
I find the alternatives significantly more beneficial, so, I guess thinking outside the box is paying dividends itself.

If you have any "outside the box" opinions, feel free to share.
    Cheers.
