Entourage movie will start shooting on Jan. 16.
The show’s creator, Doug Ellin, tweeted a photo of the eight cast members — including Jeremy Piven and Adrian Grenier — with a caption saying, "January 16 start date. Getting pumped".

Some good scenes with Ari in the trailer. Hopefully Drama and him get plenty of screen time!

    And Ari/Lloyd.

As a big fan of the show, trailer looks great. Wonder what the central story line will be in the movie? Obviously it is picking up from the end of the series, and Ari is now head of the studio. Will be great to see Ari/Lloyd back on screen together.

And for the poster above with the twats comment, if you have no interest in the show or movie, why bother posting about it!

Can't wait for this. I have honestly rewatched the entire series close to 10 times by now. The first 4 seasons are so easy to watch. 5 and 6 are still good but 7 and 8 are the worst by far and harder to watch

Jasus I can't stand turtle my dream would be that he's killed off 5 minutes into the film. Gotta love johnny drama

In the later seasons he turned into a whiny little bitch, but in the first few seasons he was funny as fuk with drama. The constant mocking they did to each other was way better than anything between Vince and E. Although E also had some hilarious responses to drama

Drama's a step ahead of the rest though. The best line of the whole show comes from drama:

"Mean? Nah. Mean is when I made jess Mancini ride her bike home after I ass fuked her!"

Strange seeing the trailer for an Entourage film. Loved the show but just feels weird looking at it in a movie type setting. Hopefully the runtime is good and doesn't feel too long with loads of filler because they feel they need to make it long.

Will have to go see this just from having watched this show through college

It seriously dipped for the last two seasons and I don't see the movie being a world beater by any means but I know I'll enjoy seeing it again on a gigantic screen with far too much popcorn!

Serious amount of cameos, can't wait to see Liam Neeson :D

Doesn't hit Irish & UK cinemas until June 12th. Released yesterday in the states.

Saw this tonight. It's as expected, a feature length episode which crams in the the plot that would normally drag on over a season.

Even more opulent than the original series, some good laughs, and so, so many great cameos. It's not any sort of masterpiece but fans of the show should really enjoy it! Makes me want to go back and watch the series from the start again.

I take it then that turtle doesn't get killed off. Jasus I hate that character.

Dunno to go see this or just wait for the DVD.

Not on in Cork Omniplex yet :(

Don't like seeing the turtle hate, yeah he was annoying at times but they all were really at times, E's a bigger whiner I think :)

Jerry Ferraras podcast can be decent at times, had plenty of Entourage people on - Doug Ellin has been on twice and they made for good listening if you're a fan of the show

So lightweight it might blow away in the wind, but fans of the show will be satiated.

Ye he's the most popular film critic around and can't just say he didn't like it. Anyway there's nothing better than a Kermode rant.

    Very enjoyable IMO.

Obviously not going to be challenging for an Oscar (:pac:) but if you're a fan of the show you'll find it a bit of fun. It's just like an extra long episode with more cameos, tits and profligacy.

My judgement is probably clouded by 8 seasons and 4 years of forgetting, what vile things did the guys do in the film?

Kermode is very wide of the mark with his rant especially since he hasnt watched the tv series. Alot of stuff went straight over his head.

As for his comments on wahlberg, completely wrong. Its based on wahlbergs life in hollywood and he produced the tv series and movie.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭shalalala

Well I would see myself as a feminist and i really enjoyed the film! He just likes the sound of his own voice it seems.

It was a basically long episode of the TV show and what is not to like about that?! Most people that will see the film will have enjoyed the show so I dont think they will be disappointed. I would have liked more of Ari ranting, but the cameo of him with Neeson was just amazing.

Well to be honest it's no surprise he didn't like it Dempsey, his wife is a feminist writer and when it comes to films like Emtourage, he wasn't ever going to give it a glowing review. He hates all the laddie type behaviour.

Kermode is a movie critic. He gives his opinion based on the merits of the movie. As such, the TV show wouldn't factor into this at all. Of course it wouldn't. The original TV show never factors into any movie adaptation. And it wasn't just him that hated it, if you listened live or downloaded the podcast, you'll see that Simon Mayo, the host, absolutely detested it.

There's a reason that Kermode is one the foremost movie critics currently working and who the best critic in history, Roger Ebert actually agreed with a lot he said.

Decided to listen to Kermodes review before posting, having seen this on Saturday night. I'd tend to respect his opinion & tbqh, for anybody stating that he's not getting it on account of not seeing the TV series - since when has watching 8 seasons of a show that ended 4/5 odd years ago, become a pre-requisite for going to see a movie? Anybody should be able to go see this movie and draw an opinion on it, however, I wouldn't recommend this to anybody who hasn't seen the show because the snapshot given of the characters isn't enough. This movie overstretches in a big way, it attempts to give a story to all the guys, whilst horsing cameos in every ten seconds and then tries to tie it up in a a big bow for a finish.

I loved this show, the last 2/3 seasons were poor, and I mean that from a writing point of view - this movie continues that writing trend. None of the stories were appealing - E's romantic endeavors in particular were rushed & fairly pathetic - the coffee shop/restaurant meeting with the two ladies - awful, awful stuff right there.

The financier wanting to fúck over a movie based on him not getting with Emily - equally awful. Throw into the middle of that an oh-no Drama's made a fool of himself again & is having a breakdown only for the circle of life to pull him back around and centre himself - that was the worst for me!

Ironically, despite his storyline being another one that felt wedged in - Turtle came across really well as a character who is still easy going despite having made it. Still throwing around business ideas, driving everybody around and despite the target being higher profile - he chased after Ronda the way he chased after women all through the series.

As per usual, it was the Ari show - most of the shows comedy moments came through the biggest egotist I've seen in a TV show & I thought Piven did well.

Kermode can say what he wants about the consumerism being piped into this movie, but the fact of the matter is, people are obsessed with celebrity & celebrity lifestyle - for a movie to be made about it isn't run of the mill and I thought he might have appreciated that, I came out of it wanting to be a billionaire, we all want the nice house, nice car, the hot girl on the arm etc. perhaps I'm a shallow consumerist to want that but for Kermode to say this film is ramming consumerism down our throats is incorrect - it's pandering to an audience, there's a demand for this type of material which is why the show was such a success & why the movie was made. I was glad I saw the film, I had missed the show, it was a nice throwback, but from a movie goer POV and looking at the story - this fell short of the mark and whilst it wasn't entirely the acting or cameos - it was the writing, stories and how they were managed that píssed me off. Doug Ellin left himself too much to do in the time on screen and as a result, the characters & their stories, to anybody who wasn't a fan of the show, will look fairly shít.

The film should be able to stand alone aside from the TV show. It doesn't, tbh, and that's a problem. If there's any streak of irony running through the show, it has been completely lost in the film. It does completely glorify a particularly odious type of celebrity lifestyle and honestly, the whole thing just looks like a 2 hour long hip-hop video from the early 2000s. It hasn't aged well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

The big mistake you could make about Entourage is over analysing it (not that I'm accusing D'Agger's great post above of that!). It is basic wish fulfilment on screen that ties together with modern obsession on celebrity culture. I really loved the first few seasons of Entourage - very easy TV to relax to. I think the movie was aimed at the existing fanbase and its quality is in line with the last couple of seasons so it's poor enough fair in that sense.

Kermode is right in a lot of what he's saying technically speaking, but it still serves to miss the point if I'm honest. It's always going to be a pointless exercise railing against its thematic focus. I don't have any interest in celebrities but most people do and Entourage has always successfully tapped into the male part of that interest very well.

To be honest neither Kermode or Ebert are all that good when it comes to film criticism, Kermode goes into many films with an obvious bias, that he can't review certain actors without making fun of them really makes him hard to take seriously and Ebert, while fun to read was very much reviewing films on a superficial level and it wasn't uncommon for him to get basic plot points wrong when discussing a film. Both are more entertainers than critics and both play up their person, Kermore in particular looks like he'd be more at home in pantomime than on a review show.

I was a fan of the show and the film was very poor. All the stories were terrible and things weren't even over the top like you would expect from a movie version. Crap cameos for the sake of them. It was just a mess with no one to care about. Zero laughs from the cinema i was in.
