IM afraid you missed the boat :(

Aer Lingus and Ryanair were recruiting last year, ryanair may take people one a bit more often id say but i have no idea about Aer Lingus, they took on about 20 i think, i cant see them recruiting again this year but i hope im wrong!

I think ryanair will be taking apprentices this year, as their apprenticeship scheme laster got canceled due to something to do with FAS,at least thats what they said in their email. Have a look at this forum , there should still be a thread from last year with all this information.

EDIT: also keep an eye on this forum , as there will be a thread if someone will start apprenticeship scheme this year.

I'we heard lots of bad opinions about it. And as far as i know they are only teaching their apprenticed up to category A, unlike others. Though i always thought that it would be better than sitting on the dole, or doing what you dont like...anyway ill be actualy doing 3 weaks of work experience down at shannon aerospace, so hopefully ill get to see what its like in there and get to speak with some of their previous apprentices.

I am a previous apprentice! Finished my time with them last friday! Your right that they only train their apprentices to A licence, but afaik ryanair are only doing that now to, as are Dublin aerospace!
From talking to contractors who I was working with in aerospace, everyone of them commented on how much standing the aerospace name has around the world and that an aerospace apprenticeship on a cv is worth it's weight in gold!! But I suppose I'll soon see is that true!! Anyway as you said, it's better then sitting at home!!
I think there is talks of another class starting in march/april!
If you've any questions fire away!!

Ryanair,CityJet and Air Atlanta usually take on apprentice's each year, add's usually appear in the paper and on their websites around July/Aug with the apprenticeship starting end of Sept/start of Oct,few months to wait yet OP,Shannon Aerospace offer a traineeship not an apprenticeship and its about two years in duration compared to four.

Hi alan. Is there, is this just with shannon, Is the leaving cert a must to obtain an apprenticeship or could it be done in the way of a mature student were your gradded on life experiance.

    http://www.fas.ie/en/Training/Apprenticeships/default.htm

Minimum requirements for apprenticeship is Junior Cert. Most companies involved in aeronautical apprenticeships will want you to have a leaving.

Some very good companies in Ireland training apprentices. Even Aer Lingus took a class on in 2011.

If you get the chance train to B1 or B2 standard. Having a Cat A is all well and good but motivate yourself to get the B1 or B2 licence. I know guys who have Cat A but are back in the books going for B1 and B2. Use an apprenticeship to get your licence while your in the study mood. Hard to get motivated as you get older.

Hes correct A few places are going scrapping the apprentice route in favour of the Aerospace way, very few if any get a b1/b2 out of an apprenticeship anyway,an apprentice or trainee is going to be doing the exact same work in a hangar environment anyway and is going to put up with the same dirty jobs :D

Do they just let u go when your time is served?Or are you offered a full time job?Would you recommend it as an apprenticeship?

I'm interested in these type courses on behalf of my brother who is interested in Aviation Engineering but he's not sure if he'll get the points in his Leaving

What do people think of the course in carlow IT? they let you do the Easa modules, but you dont get any on job experience, which is a requirement for your license?

If you want to work on aircraft do an apprenticeship/traineeship,experience is the key especially while doing easa modules its easier to relate to the notes whilst hands on,rather than just staring at books and crap diagrams and you get some bit of pay

Air Atlanta is not an apprenticeship though, they're looking for qualified mechanics.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if its possible to go from B1 to a B2? Would it require extensive extra training or would it be a case of simply sitting down with the books for a few weeks and passing the B2 exams?

    Thanks alot,
    Jack

There would be a certain number of exams you would have to do, I'm not entirely sure which ones, but 3, 4 and 5 for definite I'd say, the biggest part would be getting the avionics experience required for the IAA to grant you the licence!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 mufc2011

Lads do ye know after you complete an apprenticeship are you kept on and made permanent?Or are the airline just looking for workers for 4 years and letting you go as soon as you qualify?

You will have to convert exams from b1 to b2 modules on modules 4,5,6(i think),7 and do module 13 and 14,however 14 is questionable as some say B1 mod 15 and 17 cover this,it also requires a certain time frame of experience

They planned to, but it seems to be left quite late, Id say the whole shannon situation is taking priority at the moment.

Aye, same here. It would be nice to at least have some acknowledgment that your application was received. Deadline was last week I thought so I'm beginning to get a little worried. These things often get cancelled without anyone seeming to bother informing applicants. Happened last year with Ryanair anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 613 ✭✭✭Darius.Tr

I know a few people who rang transaero to get some information, and they were told that they will be contacted soon. That was last friday I think.

Hard to say with any certainty. There's a lot of variables involved, who knows what situation the company will be in 4 years from now, let alone the economy in general. If you qualify and the company needs engineers then why wouldn't they take you? They've overseen your training so they know your history, can't see why you wouldn't be given a contract.

Aer Lingus ad for apprentices will be in papers from Sunday 20th May. Closing date 1st June.
It's already up on website but not opening till Monday.

No nothing yet, does anyone have a rough idea of when the aptitude tests are usually held every year?
