Wrap substitutes?

Are there any good substitutes for tortilla wraps? I've been making delicious breakfast burritos using wholewheat wraps, chopped vegetables, egg whites and a splash of ketchup that come in at under 350 calories - and I'm hooked on them - but over 200 of those calories are in the wrap alone. Any suggestions? I know I could leave it all together and just eat the rest by themselves, but the wrap makes them handy to eat on the go :)

    Thanks!

PS - is just under 350 calories too much for breakfast?

You could use iceberg lettuce leaves as wraps, but mightn't be quite as tasty as the tortilla..

A thin omelette or pancake (using oats in the pancake or oatbran) would not be many calories and also filling.

I would say 350 kcals is barely enough for breakfast at all!

I would say 350 kcals is barely enough for breakfast at all!

That's what I was worried about, but at the end of the day it fills me and has a nice bit of protein (which I hear is a must for breakfast). It's basically just a wrap that is packed with vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers) and 2 egg whites. Sometimes if I have them - usually 2/3 mornings a week - I'll add in two turkey rashers which bring it to just under the 400 mark. It fills me up nicely and is absolutely delicious!

But I guess that's another thing I wanted to ask - is it possible to eat too few calories even if it fills you? I had just under 1000 calories yesterday and I was full after each meal, but even in my limited knowledge I know this seems like nothing. I'm a big guy - 6"3 and 17st, so this shouldn't fill me but lately it does. Have I just discovered the joys of sensible eating or is this unsustainable? Thanks :)

Bottom line is you HAVE to eat more. It needs to start now and not down the line. It's not healthy for your age, sex and weight to eat so little (infact, an old elderly sedentary women would have 1200 min, you have no excuse)

The only way to increase appetite is to eat more. You will be deficient in many fat soluble vitamins and minerals and this will manifest itself down the line. Break the trend now!

If you are eating 350 calories at breakfast you must be eating next to nothing throughout the rest of the day to stay below 1000 ?

OP I presume since you have such a drastic calorie deficit you have jumped in from eating unhealthy to trying to suddenly eat healthy ? If this is the case I know from experience because you go from stuffing yourself with the wrong stuff to trying to eat properly you do tend to feel fuller on much less because you are eating more of the right stuff. The thing as pointed out above it is very unhealthy and will start to notice quickly a real lack of energy/ focus etc. If you are going to start exercise you will be able to do next to nothing with that kind of diet.

You want a diet which is sustainable long term.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'd thank your posts but I don't think I have enough posts to unlock that feature.

I guess I could eat more, or if not more, then more "heavy" food for lack of a better word (ie more red meat, I love a good steak :) )

Yesterday I had a scone for breakfast, 2 x ryvita + turkey sandwiches for lunch and one of the above mentioned burittos for dinner, with an apple for an evening snack. I suppose it's naive of me to think I can go from not caring about what and when I eat to days like yesterday. I'll make an effort eat more good stuff, I've got some quick fry steak in the fridge that needs using up :)

just regarding the original post. I saw a pic online of a a guy using egg whites as a wrap. Gonna give it a go myself but I could see it being much better than lettuce

Maybe just make the eggs and veggies as an omellette instead? Takes only a few mins! But since you're leaving out the wraps, leave in the egg yolks - thats where the good stuff is! ;)
