Foreign Satellite Off Topic Thread

Just registered there now and this is my first post here but long term reader.

I thought that it would be beneficial to this thread to introduce a off topic thread for questions that sort of relate to foreign satellite but aren't really worth a new thread every time if you know what I mean.

So the first question in this thread is Are the discovery channels on Cyfra+ and the national geographic channel both availible in English? I know that they both have 2 audio tracks English and Polish. But is the English audio track English or is it used for Polish as well?

I just checked there and yes it is in english on both channels.
Discovery on greek nova is fully english as its discovery europe.
We would of had that channel until the late 90's when sky digital came in and done uk only versions.

I like watching the european versions.

Hello, was wondering what other satellites out there (if any) I can pick up with a 60cm dish? We get Hotbird 13e, Astra 19.2e & 28.5 with good strenght & quality. Is there any others that I could pick up with a 60cm or would I have to invest in a larger one? Would Astra 4.8e, Nilesat 7w or Eutelsat 7e be recievable with a 60cm?

Have you read the rules. That online shop you are linking to in all of your posts is not a registered retailer for saorview so the saorview name and logo should not be used by the OWNER of that site that site does not sell Saorview approved receivers.

Thanks for that mate, but what exactly does that mean "in center of the dish!"? Do I need to elevate the dish higher or something? Yeah I just noticed I can get Eurobird 9A which has RealMadrid TV fta with decent quality on it which is was a nice suprise.

On a different matter is the Al Jazeera Sports Channel thats fta on 19.2 E show any of the same programming (Champions League e.g) that the encypted Al Jazeera Sports channels on several different satellites carry?

hi guys quick question i'm getting an install done soon thinking of getting a quad lnb put on the (90cm) dish as well as a 4-way switch. Will be getting one lnb for cyfra+ card which i'm definitely going to get (cyfra reads off Hotbird, am i right in thinking this??). Anyway my question is what other cards would be able to read off the same satellite, or should i get another lnb or two? Main interests would be sport (cyfra has the prem football covered as far as i know), but would also be interested in movies, discovery/nat geographic/history channels possibly as well. Any advice much appreciated!

Yes, Cyfra is on Hotbird. You seem to be referring to the Canal+ version of the card which actually carries sports, film and an entertainment channel. You can get a Cyfra card with discovery. national geographic and history channels as well.

There are lots of other service providers on Hotbird..but some will require a specific receiver rather than a card (eg Sky Italia).

Al Jazeera Sports, Sky Italia, Nova, Polsat, Hello, Orange Polska, N, TNK are ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I have Cyfra card, Polsat and Al Jazeera. Maybe i'll go for Sky Italia some day, but it'll require a house move for me to get the best out of it.

What do you get on Polsat and Al Jazeera, if you don't mind me asking?

My Polsat card and Cam is actually a bit redundant at this stage, as i upgraded my Cyfa sub meaning a fair bit of duplication.

http://en.kingofsat.net/pack-polsat.php is a list of whats on Polsat. I don't have the HBO pack.

I have Sport, Children, Entertainment and Documentaries. Most of which are on the Cyfra card.

Al Jazeera has 8 or 10 sports channels. Lots of football and tennis, some English commentary. No premiership or HD, but an excellent card for the price. Has had some difficulties in recent weeks which are being blamed on the Syrian crisis. Allegedly.

Ok. Thanks so much. One last question. Will the cyfra+ card have any problem working in either of these two machines (will buy from shop locally)?

I'm not sure which box i'll get yet. Again, sorry for all the questions..

I bought a 6 month Polsat card and CAM from satsklep last year. I got 12 months from it (HD turned off after about 8 months) and I got great value from it. Does anyone know where these can be bought for a reasonable price online as satsklep don't sell them anymore :(

They both work afaik. The Cyfra card had an annoying habit of missing updates in the card reader of my old reciever, so i have it paired with a cam now.

I've heard good things on the Ferguson and it seems to have excellent support on here. How many card readers/cam slots has it got though?

Yeah, i got a renewal through satsklep at the time. Nothing like as reasonable out there at the moment. Sometimes you can get it on offer through german ebay outlets.

    UK only at the moment.

Just the one card reader afaik. I'm gettin one Ferguson for the old man downstairs (a name he recognizes - - > less chance of him panicking). For myself i'm now looking at the opticum 9600 prima - seems to tick all the boxes, twin tuner, 2 card slots + 2 CIF, 1080p full hd (is for 46" telly), usb record etc. Will prob order on satsklep with cyfra card and save myself on delivery

I have an old analogue receiver/positioner. It's an Elipse Discus made in Scotland, very early 90's from the looks of it.

Would it still be useful or anything (eg: helping aling a dish) or would there be in anybody intrested in buying things like these as collectors items?

Apparently they were very expensive when they first came out.

    Translated from ZDF Kultur

In Wacken, Schleswig-Holstein, a contemplative community, annually hosts the biggest heavy metal concert in the world. The Wacken Open Air is THE event in Germany for heavy metal. Metal fans from all over the world travel each year to celebrate for three days of a very special festival, but the mood and charm of this event around the small village in Schleswig-Holstein fascinate not only the diehard fans of the genre. Wacken is a cult, well beyond the genre boundaries.

The Wacken festival is also in the summer of 2012 with an impressive array of international stars at the launch, including the Scorpions, In Flames, Volbeat, Ministry, Dimmu Borgir, Amon Amarth and many more.

I dont know anything about this STB but does it accept Cams? If it does, then you will need to buy the Cam that works with Cyfra and then teh card will work, (Im afraid I cant remember which Cam works with Cyfra off hand).

If you dont know the answer to these questions, you cvould email Satskelp and ask them if the Cyfra card will work in your STB.

    Hope that helps a little.

    Regards

    Iba

I recently got a lot of help here setting up a box. A mate now wants to know what channels they can get from setting up a free to air box and sat. Now that I have my €12 sat finder I have been roped into help. :p
