Anyone else looking forward to this release?
I loved the original game's.Played them to death.
This gameplay demo looks like its more of the fast paced frantic action I loved on the PS2 before it went to the console heaven

at the moment it's slated for a march release

Definitely looking forward to this one. My thumb's literally bled over the first three and 'On Tour' got a few spins as well. Was initially a bit skeptical about this release when I saw the preliminary shots but this demo has me excited again!

I'm not one for hyperbole, but anyone who doesn't think this will be the best game ever is worse than Hitler.

    Can't fecking wait.

Yeah, that caught me by surprise too. Really don't think it should be in a game like this. Be interesting to see how it's implemented.

Gameplay looks fantastic though. The gliding looks and seems to work a lot better than I thought it would

Looks alot like SSX Tricky, which was one o f my favourite PS2 games. Didn't even know this was coming out, delighted it is, but as 2smiggy said there should be no rewind feature.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,418 ✭✭✭Icyseanfitz

rewind meh i wont use it just like forza, i wonder if there will be online racing? i never did that in an ssx before

I think you will find that the rewind feature that I mentioned I did not like, does in fact take away from the challenge.

Was it this that when it was first announced it, they said it was going to be grittier, darker and more realistic? If so, I'm glad they realised they were talking rubbish!

Yeah, I think they changed their game-plan pretty sharpish when they seen the reaction the original trailer got.

I've played a preview of it, it's GREAT fun and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Looks wise, it's a little more "grown up" than previous offerings as you'll see from the clip above, but it's still absolutely 100% SSX in terms of game play with wild jumps that last for hundreds of feet and the "tricky" meter for pulling off the super special combos.

Some interesting new additions - hazard courses where in one instance you're hurtling down the mountain avoiding an avalanche coming behind you (it flips the screen for this mode which took some getting used to) and racing in the dark with only the light on your head providing clarity of the map in front of you (there was a clip of that in the video above).

I know we're gonna have more about it closer to launch as a part of our arrangement eith EA, so I'll be back whenever I have more news. I can hand on heart say that if you enjoyed the previous SSX games, you'll definitely want to give this one a look.

Lord, I can remember playing SSX Tricky so much :)

I must have played the first course Garibaldi literally hundreds upon hundreds of times. (less than a thousand times though :D) The other maps were great too, the city map where your going downhill and eventually you come to 6 ramps in a row that spring you up into the air.

Or the last map where you could stay in the air the whole time if you wanted too.

I'd half forgetton about some of those maps. The fond memories are coming flooding back here. This new SSX is really gonna have to be something special to beat that classic.

I've said for years that if they put tricky in a slightly shorter box and did nothing else, I'd buy it again.

One of the most fun games I've ever played. Very much looking forward to this one. I'm very glad that the dropped all that dark, gritty nonsense in favour of flashing lights and shiny colours, it's important to stay true to its roots.

It's a modern SSX Tricky! Definitely a launch title for me!

Boom 49 minutes with the Giant Bomb quick look

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

It's going to be excellent. If you use the Rewind, the other racers carry on and you lose points as well - only you enter a rewind state.

Gameplay is really slick and fluid - well put together game. Plenty of variety on and offline.

    🤪

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,516 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

Just gotten through half that quicklook and the guy playing it is freaky good at the game, i cannot wait for this so i can try some of the crazy stuff hes pulling off.
Also really looking forward to the soundtrack stuff and mixing my own ones with the in game editor

Any word on if we'll get a demo for this before it hits the shelves?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

My god it looks so good in motion, I can't bloody wait for it. Currently bidding on SSX3 on the Xbox (which is backwards compatable with the 360). For all the talk about Tricky, I still reckon 3 is the best.

i dont like how simple the rails looked
dude said they wanted to make "burnout on snow" and didn't know how to balance staying on rails properly? ugh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

Rails are very easy, but you travel quickly so balancing would be tough. Also points and tricks are more focused on jumps, ramps and over-the-top action so I think rails were the least of their concerns.

    🤪

Is it absoultely guaranteed that the Mount Fuji DLC is exclusive to the PS3 version? The pre-order poster in GameStop makes it look like you get it for either version.

Demo drops this tuesday for Xbox and wednesday for ps3.
Will include 2 characters 1 of them you need to refer a friend to unlock.
There will be 4 events - 2 tutorials, 1 trick and 1 race.

Cant wait to get a go with this and try the new control system and be ready for the full game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

Excitement level for SSX when I woke up this morning: 40% - Knew I wanted to play it, maybe pick it up release weekend if I have the time.

Excitement level for SSX after reading this thread and watching the videos: 100% - I am getting this as soon as I wake up on March 2nd and will most likely do nothing else that entire weekend.

for gold only or for silver?

might actually find the power cable for my xbox and give it a... oh nevermind, i dont have a working controller

    poop

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,126 ✭✭✭✭calex71

hmmmmmm reserving judgement on this, just didn't have the impact on me I thought it would.

Controls are nice, after coming from skate in recent years that system is what I would instinctively use, and it works well in this and actually far more simple than skate. You can use buttons either though so might give that a try in a bit.

Gripes with it are that it seems to land form the air for you, there is massive ai assistance ..... or so it seems and also grinds are almost too easy to do and hold.

It just doesn't feel as arcadey as I would have liked either but thats not a major issue.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

aw, one of the fears I had watching some of the pre release videos was how easy the rails and jumps looked
it's just not fun if you dont have to actually work for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,516 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

Finding the new controls a bit difficult to get used to, still havent been able to hit the silver medal on the trick event and dont even talk to me about the race cus i always forget im meant to be racing and not tricking.
Once i get to grips properly with the controls i reckon i could have a lot of fun

Played the demo and had a blast. My decision to buy this game on release is well and truly upheld.

Last night I got stuck into the demo whilst waiting to do a Skype interview with Todd Batty who's the Creative Director of the game (and a nice guy). I loved it, did the interview slightly late cause I wasn't paying attention to my incoming Skype contact requests and played "one more run" and as soon as we were done (I'm currently editing it and will upload it later I hope), I went back to it. Tonight I'm looking for Gold Medals - was about a million points off it on the Trick It run and quite a bit too slow on the race cause I kept doing tricks too :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 956 ✭✭✭RiseToTheTop

I found the game nice. It didn't sway off the arcade style of SSX Tricky, which is good.

I agree that griding pipes is easy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

Really enjoying the demo. Golds in both events now! Really is a game that demands one more go down the mountain though.....and of course, one go turns into far more.

    🤪

is the demo only available to psn+ users?had a quick looksee this morning before heading into work and didnt see it
