Do mods on AH not have the right to move topics to other forums?

(NB: Not complaining in any way about moderations, just merely curious)

I see a lot of locked threads on AH where the mods say something like "You'd have more luck in (link)Personal Issues" or "Try the (link)TV forum to get proper answers on this question" etc

My question is this: Whenever I've been a mod on other websites we've always had an option to, instead of closing or deleting a thread, to actually move it into the other forum automatically, so the thread actually goes from say AH to the TV forum instead of remaining on AH, albeit locked.

Do the mods here not have the power to do that, is it somehow less convenient, or are you just plain lazy feckers? :P

Again not complaining at all, rarely happens to me, just curious as I see the forum cluttered by a lot of locked threads and can't help wondering why not just move them altogether?

No point moving them once full of nonsense.

But then AH'ers wouldn't get to toy with people who innocently wandered in to ask a perfectly reasonable question.

AH does not hold hands. Tough love.

    Little thing called sarcasm.

For each post, boards should ask you "Was this meant sarcastically?" and you have to answer 'yes' or 'no' before you're post goes up.

AH threads are generally fit for the bin rather than to be moved, there was a thread recently in the motors forum, the first 3 or 4 pages was the most retarded sh1te you'd ever read with folks making daft, silly comments in the usual effort for the likeminded to thank them, it was moved from AH to motors.

So mods in here most definitely can move threads from here to other forums, I imagine they often reckon it's best just to lock it.

It's not the mods that are lazy, it's the posters.

"Eh move this if it isn't in the right place", where can I find x in town" or "how can I fix my car", and these are generally from posters that have been around a long time but don't give a schite where they post.

Posters are getting so bloody lazy now they don't even bother their arse quoting articles, which is a right pain for anyone on a mobile that's not using a super dooper smart-phone.

    They do move threads!

I once posted on a subject here in AH that susequently got moved to PI, then got a ban from PI as it was a smart alek (AH) reply. Didn't deserve it as the post was made while the topic was in AH and got banned by a PI Mod. Didn't bother me in the least though as I don't post in PI anyhow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,875 ✭✭✭✭MugMugs

They can move them and as with what RoverJames said, I'd rather they didn't because generally there's a redirect on the threads meaning a move to PI or Motors and the thread still shows in AH for a period of time.

AH humour on other forums isn't a good thing.

no, they most certainly do not. It is in fact illegal and the mod in question can go to jail fo it. I think you should contact the authorities immediately.

6 1/2 years posting and the OP has never seen an AH thread being moved else where??

I was just thinking the same thing. OP appears to have led a very sheltered existence here on Boards, if they need to ask such a question.

Btw OP, why post the thread here?

Feedback or AH would have been better, no?

I see a lot of locked threads on AH where the mods say something like "You'd have more luck in (link)Personal Issues" or "Try the (link)TV forum to get proper answers on this question" etc

Well you see that happening because the link given is showing the OP where they will get the appropriate answers to their thread.
My question is this: Whenever I've been a mod on other websites we've always had an option to, instead of closing or deleting a thread, to actually move it into the other forum automatically, so the thread actually goes from say AH to the TV forum instead of remaining on AH, albeit locked.

The replies in an AHs thread would not be welcome in the TV forum as the charter's are different,so a link is given.

Do the mods here not have the power to do that, is it somehow less convenient, or are you just plain lazy feckers? :P

If a thread that belongs in another forum is posted in AHs and is caught early with no replies, it will be moved.
Again not complaining at all, rarely happens to me, just curious as I see the forum cluttered by a lot of locked threads and can't help wondering why not just move them altogether?

You can see the lock, the mods can see multiple threads,re-reg's troll accounts, ect.

If you see lots of closed threads re a particular user, there is usually a reason for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,128 ✭✭✭✭Oranage2
