Michael D's daughter attends Newgrange Solistice

Perhaps a political topic but I thing it deserves the AH once over :P

Read about this in the Sunday Times over the weekend and I agree it's not the biggest deal out there but it did get me annoyed at the same time. After listening to this man speak for an entire month in debate after debate on what he would do and 'bring to the presidency' this is what we get.

Not only did his daughter get to go but was able to bring a guest as well. More like what the presidency can do for him or more correctly his family by the looks of it.


To make a second point in all of this, the chamber can only hold 24 people, there were two political people in there already in the form of Leo Varadkar and Ruairi Quinn along with 'several' civil servants, the Austrian Ambassador, and Professor of Archaeology and three photographers. In terms of Joe public we get 6 tickets by lottery out of 35000 who applied, I think it shows where the balance of things lie in this country.

That would annoy me too. People just up for the novelty and may have no real interest in it.

The same thing happened at the Ryder cup in Ireland. Alot of the tickets went to the great and the good. People ended up there who prob only recognized tiger woods and hadn't a clue what they were watching.

I am a very ordinary bloke with no connections. I took my mother for her birthday as we're both golf fans. When I got them through the lottery, I almost cried. She did cry when Darren Clarke walked to the first tee within touching distance. I'd say the majority of the people there were in roughly the same boat.

Hope Micky H's daughter enjoyed it, great experience for her.

We can agree or disagree with this particular case but again it is another of how our politicians (regardless of party) carry on in this country.

I just think that there were 35000 interested in going, places are limited and ultimately two spaces are taken up by someone who is nothing more than Joe public and not elected.

The president is elected, and I'd wager that most of those that voted for him believe that he and by extension his family should be given some concessions in certain instances.
