Old story. He most likely cheated along the way or doesn't know what a year is but there is evidence that people can live for very extended periods without any sustenance.

They'll be monitoring him for 2 more weeks so that will be 3 weeks in total. I'll be interested to see him then.

I seen something about this on the BeeB

There are actually a few of them, one was brought in and tested under laboratory conditions and scrutinised by CC TV and he didn't drink or eat for 10 days, with no ill effects.

"Neurologist Sudhir Shah said Jani was under watch for 10 days, with a closed-circuit camera running, and that doctors were convinced he did not break any of his vows, although there was no way of verifying whether Jani has pulled it off for 68 years.

Simple way to test his cred, stick him in a locked room with no food or water for two weeks.

If he doesn't die then fair balls to him.

They virtually did for 10 days, and he didn't and he suffered no ill effects.

Now it could be an elaborate magic trick, but the programme I seen left me and the observers fairly convinced.

10 days is doable with no water depending on the temperature of the room.

14 days without water = death.

It's the only way to be sure.

The case has attracted criticism, both after 2003 tests and after the recent 2010 tests. Sanal Edamaruku, president of the Indian Rationalist Association, criticized the 2010 experiment for allowing Jani to move out of a certain CCTV camera's field of view, meet devotees and leave the sealed test room to sunbathe. Edamaruku stated that the regular gargling and bathing activities were not sufficiently monitored, and accused Jani of having had some "influential protectors" who denied Edamaruku permission to inspect the project during its operation

Additionally, please do not drink your own urine or eat your own faeces. You will die.

You'd die of dehydration before you'd die of starvation. Depending on your stamina and weight, but up to and aprox a week without any fluid whatsoever before your organs begin to jack in.

    So, no. He's talking bollox.

We would have heard if he was still going. I presume he did it for 70 years but died in the 2 weeks where he was monitored.

He must have; whatever about the eating and drinking, there's no way he'd survive that.

It's the only way to be sure.

Even 10 days without water would almost certainly be fatal. And with all those years of no food where would he get the energy to survive? For his heart to even keep beating? It's the equivalent of suggesting that you've driven the same car for years without ever needing to refuel it. He is quite simply talking bollox.

So unlikely that it'd almost be considered impossible.

In fact, i'm almost 100% certain this is a hoax. Photosynthetic plants and archaea may be able to obtain energy using the sun's energy, CO2 and Water but they still need a source of matter to synthesise all the biomolecules needed for life.

Unless he can somehow synthesise nucleic acids, amino acids, lipids and at least glucose using only the Nitrogen, Carbon dioxide, Oxygen, Water vapour and other trace materials and pollutants (Sulfur-containg pollutants in particular) in the air there is absolutely no way that any known organism can survive.

There are only two possible explanations:
    1. He is a novel organism that has never been observed before. - Not going to completely discount this possibility but it's incredibly unlikely.
    2. It's a hoax. - Most likely.

There is no real health risk with regard to drinking your own urine actually, beyond if you have an infection of some kind (kidney, urethra etc).

But yes, you certainly do not want to eat da poo poo.
