Doubt it. The rate the next gen smartphones are being released I'd probably expect something announced at CES next week. If not, and Samsung stick to the yearly routine then yes, at MWC.

Better off to hold out on buying an S2 so for a few weeks?? Was gonna get one, but if an S3 is imminent the prices of the S2 should drop ?

Likely to a couple of months between the SIII being announced and being available in Ireland. SII was announced in Feb last year, but I think it was June or July before it was in the shops here.

I can't wait for it to come out. I have an iPhone 4 and I hate the thing so I can safely say I'll be switching to the SIII as soon as it hits our shops. Looking at various websites each week to see if theres any updates.

Is there any news on what the specs will be on this?

Is there any news on what the specs will be on this?

Rumour mill is reporting a quad core processor, 12MP camera, 4.65 inch screen and an upgraded GPU (didn't read about the specs of it)...

Just from what I've read lately..

    Edit: Also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyOqL_El9c8

Doesn't give much away (!) apart from the date. I'm guess the date is not in US format - dd/mm/yy

What date is it? Can't access youtube.
I heard it's going to be 3d. I was going to upgrade to a II from a desire. Worth it, or wait? The III will probably be a good bit more expensive when it's out too.

I think it will be annouced on that date but they probably won't ship the phones in Ireland till probably June

I only bought a SG11 there back in november and I have to say it's one of the best phones I ever used, I'm due an up grade now and was thinking of getting the Nexus but it does not have a memory card slot so I might hold out for an SG111 if it's as good as the SG11.

No guarantee that the S3 will have microSD tbh but i would suspect it will, still a bit early for totally getting rid of extra storage options

Excellent stuff..really cant wait for this to arrive:D

Lads just a quick but which network would run this phone better? Have an iphone with vodafone and its terrible so was thinking of switching to 02...good or bad move??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,241 ✭✭✭god's toy

Hmm they are saying ''4.65 inches Super AMOLED touch screen display'' What no 'Plus' there? could be the same pentile screen as in the Nexus... :(

I think 1.8ghz Quad core with 2 GB ram and 12 MP cam sound nearer the mark.

would be more than happy with that!

EDIT: really hope they have user micro sd too!

The handset in that link there is absolutely gorgeous, and it will certainly have a super amoled plus screen.

    http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/samsung-galaxy-s3-delayed-beyond-mwc--1057634

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest tbh, with the S2 still going strong, and the Note not even launched in the US yet, no hurry. Samsung's high end phones will still be talked qbout in the meantime.

Surely such an anticipated handset could have its own launch, like the Galaxy Nexus did(Sort of)

The (rumored) specs of the HTC Edge (or whatever it's called) are looking pretty weak compared to this.

Plus the camrea on my Desire HD is pants.

As much as i dislike Touchwiz.....i think i'm about to be coaxed away from HTC.

Whats more, with the rumours of quad-cores coming from HTC and LG, it'll be interesting to see what the perception will be like if the S3 is only dual core, which looks fairly likely, saw rumours of a 2.0GHz Exynos not so long ago, which seems cloes to the mark. I really can;t see the point of quad core handsets yet, the S2 goes like a bullet train on gingerbread, it'll be interesting to see how it handles ICS, that'll tell us if quad core is necessary at all...

    Oh I'll believe it :)

But unfortunately the 'speedyness' of all phones like this is unfortunately based(As in from reviews and the like) on how they handle their stock rom, i.e, ICS with Touchwiz on top in this case... Reason being that a large proportion of the phones users will never do anything like load a custom rom onto their phone..

Rather than just bumping the MP of the camera, I hope they do something "new" like add a high speed video recording feature or something.

A pure bump in specs wouldn't lure me away from the S2 at all.

How much do we think the OEM's will tinker with ICS? Isn't google being more restrictive these days as to what can be done? Honeycomb seemed to escape relatively unscathed, certainly compared to Eclair, Froyo and, to a lesser extent, Gingerbread.

Almost certainly after. I'd guess April announcement followed by July release here

I've had my trusty Galaxy S for about 16 months now, and was strongly considering the S3 in about 6 months time. The original Galaxy was so popular that even after Samsung stopped supporting it with updates, the independent developers took over and did a brilliant job in providing further updates. I'm not sure that this will continue with the S2 and S3, as there will be less units out there. Thoughts anyone ?

Having said all of that, I think that the S3 will probably be brilliant, and I'm really looking forward to seeing it

S2 is well supported by devs since it came out and Samsung have been as other companies (HTC and Motorola) locked their bootloaders creating extra hassle for the devs; HTC/Motorola have now reversed their stance on the bootloaders, after bad publicity. So good news for S2 owners, and I'm sure Samsung will want to shift a lot of units - so I'm not sure why you think there will be less units out there.

Hmm...was just about to upgrade from an S to S2...S is driving me mad at the moment..it works for most things other than the actual phone...I go in, hit two digits then it closes out. Similarly for contacts and messaging (outside the mobile manager app which works fine).

To hold out for the S3 or not..damned if I do and damned if I don't?

My galaxy s was doing the same thing. I would try to dial someone and four digits into the number it would close the dialer. I eventually bit the bullet and stuck a custom ROM on and no issues since.

given that the S2 is samsungs fastest selling phone ever, i somehow cant see it having less units out there...
sure, at last report it was S2 10m units vs S1 20m units but that was around 6 months ago, and the S had roughly a year headstart.
