What does the world "Fat" mean to you?

Does it only mean a person who is really overweight (ie obese) or a person who is overweight, ie half a stone or a stone overweight.

I am not sure, but I have used the term "fat" used with people who are obese. In recent years though it has been symonomous with people who are a couple of pounds overweight.

If 'fat' threads were food, then we'd all be fcuking obese at this stage.

Noticeably big, not merely flabby or with a bit extra on the arse. Even slim people can be flabby.

It's after Christmas and loads have people have eaten too much, so now the cycle begins where they convince themselves they are not actually fat.

I think lots of trolls overindulged over Christmas and are venting their anger and self-loathing.

As said, noticeably big. Not just a few extra pounds which is nothing really.

fat is natural and very attractive in natural doses but muffin tops or big bellies uh uh

when you have too much or too little that you look like the opposite sex. girly rakes or man boobs

I'd only use it seriously if they were noticably big, really overweight, obese perhaps. But being human, if my friend's boyfriend cheats on her and the girl he cheated with is a couple of pounds overweight, or thin and just a bit flabby, I will call her a fat bitch. Or remark that X girl is too fat to wear leggings as trousers. Even if she's not fat. Leggings with trousers are unflattering.

    I'm a girl, I bitch. Hypocritically.

someone who has trouble getting up out of a seat etc without help, and not because of illness-old age

Forget BMI's or whatever metrics you prefer. Double/triple chin and/or big belly = fat.

I overheard some yank who fit this description swear blind that he wasn't fat because (in his words) he was "just 20lbs over the national average". I guess the national average is a little different over there.

In fairness, you can control your weight, not your colour.

But being a girl/human isn't an excuse for being bitchy.

I replied to the thread question stating what I actually consider to be fat. Then added that people, myself included, use the term more loosely even when they know it is wrong to do so. You can't tell me you've never called anyone 'names', so to speak, behind their back. The example was to demonstrate how people, and I, use the word 'fat' where it is inappropriate. It is not to demonstrate how evil I am, or encourage people to think that because of this real-life example I am probably a racist, Nazi, communist, elitist w**ker who has a serious superiority complex.

This is true, it was wrong to disregard my bitchiness as natural or an innate human quality.

I use it to mean the same thing as people refer to as 'stout'; thickset or noticeably overweight.

I think the fact that this word is becoming less and less politically correct, and that the state of being overweight is often sugar coated (pardon the expression) with alternative words doesn't help anybody.

    Fat is fat.

Fat means wicked cool, yo. But you're spelling it wrong.

Op, if different levels of obesity in partners is your thing, or 'fat' as you put it, well that's just great.

Good for you, Op, even if you are still using slang from the early 90s.

Fat is more than a little overweight. relative to the persons build, it's something that can't be covered by saying overweight. I would classify myself as nearing chubby :/

ah I'm not saying i'm overweight or anything, I'm not, I just noticed in some pictures recently that I could do with trimming down a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,877 ✭✭✭stripysocks85

I'm fat. I ain't gonna lie. Think technically for a while there I was obese. Finally, am doing things about it, mainly just since September. It's an extremely touchy subject for most people, but I suppose I agree with a poster earlier who said that most people probably over indulged over Xmas and are er..... feeling the pinch now, quite literally, so feel the need to belittle others.

Anyway. Why are people fat? Because they consume more calories than they use. Simples. Hence why the term - 'eat less, move more' actually works!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,333 ✭✭✭RichieC

You've never seen that before? its like one half of their belly is hanging lower than the other half... awful looking.

having something to trim is a good thing. nevermind what the gay fashion magazines tell you about what straight men find attractive

I dunno about other women, but for me those images are hard to ignore. i'm thinking whatever weight I am when i'm getting regular exercise, and eating a little better than now, I'll be fine with. I know I have a bit of excess on my tummy and thighs and I would feel more attractive without it.
