overheating in exercise

Someone might have an idea to help.

I am one of those "lucky" bas**rds who sweats very heavily after 3-4 minutes of exercise and an hours leisurely jog or even a 5 minute cycle will leave me looking like Ive just gone ten rounds with mike tyson in a swimming pool. And being irish I have the skin of someone who has fallen into tub of vanilla ice cream, 30 seconds exposure to the sun is likely to have me taken away to a burns unit wearing a suit of tin foil ....... so the great thing is when the temperature gets above about 19 or 20 degrees ...i just start sweating for the crack, and I dont actually need to do exercise before the tin foil comes out .

Anyway I have a suspicion that due to my tendency towards spontaneous combustion.....and associated with this I assume massive loss of nutrients and salts that happens every time i get up from the chair....that I ought to be more careful than normal humans about (a) what nutrients I put into my body before during and after exercise and ( b) what clothes I wear when exercising in above normal temperatures.
i have noticed a tendency towards low grade illness ( mostly physical...before any of you smart asses suggest otherwise) after a few days of exercise which I think may be associated with being freckled and Irish.

My normal exercise is an hours jog 4 or 5 times a week or when I am really seeking out excitement! the gym when I move light pieces of stainless steel around a room for about an hour.... and now and again a 4 or 5 hours hill walk torture.

Anyway does anyone lucky enough to be from the freckled gene pool have similar tendancies and if so whats the story..does sweating like a pantomine horse have any adverse affect...should I take stuff more than a gallon of water before during and after exercise to replace lost essence of me and am i more prone to colds and flus from 30 litres of sweat going cold before I get to the shower...which can take half an hour depending on how far away my rendez vous with mike tyson happens to have been....

or am i full of sh*t and should i stop whinging and and ask my mother can i move back in?

i look forward to your sensitive and helpful comments

    sweaty :)

I can't answer all your questions or speak for people with freckles. But I have thought a lot about body temperature and exercise.

I think that most people underestimate and are unaware of how uncomfortably hot they get when exercising. I think it is because of their focus and determination to exercise and especially in sport to compete, that they neglect and ignore their body temperature. As a result I would even say that it is one of the contributing factors to why some people may dislike and thus be reluctant to exercise: that they can't sustain a comfortable body temperature while exercising.

I don't think you are alone in that respect and I can't imagine that having a more "irish" look makes any difference.

My suggestions to keep at a comfortable and cool temperature while exercising are:
Swimming. It is very difficult to overheat when you are immersed in cool water. And if the swimming pool is too hot, there is always the sea.
Exercise outdoors. Running, skipping or whatever exercise you like in windy, cold, snowy, raining weather should help remove excess heat quickly.
After that there are little things you could do or try, such as keep a bottle of water with you while exercising, and pour or squirt it over yourself when hot, or wear wet clothes or use a wet towel.

Obviously make sure you keep yourself warm after exercise as one could leave their body vulnerable to colds, flu etc.

I don't have your problem. Apart from fair skin that is. For that, P20 or Parasol 20 (or 30) is a good option because it doesnt wash (or sweat) off. If you get very damp with sweat but can't shower you should get changed at least until you get to wash properly. I'd get chilled if I didn't do that. Wear wicking fabrics, not cotton. And lastly, if you notice adverse effects from just drinking water then try isotonic fluids.

See? You're not alone. We do care. :)

Guarantee I sweat as much as you do. I'm a running joke amongst friends and family. My side of the bed looks like the shroud of feckin turin, my shirts and tshirts all end up with this solidified beige sweat concrete area under the arms and when I train it's like a day out at splash world. Control yourselves ladies.

I can tell you theres no reason to worry about nutrients or whatever. Just drink enough water. Don't worry about losing salt either that's a load of balls.

As far as an antiperspirant recommendation goes. Mitchum. It's design for people who don't wash and makes it biologically impossible for you to sweat. You're welcome.
