Nutritional Advice

    I'm just wondering if anyone can offer any advice regarding some of the stuff I've been told and have read online. (mainly here and other health forums...whatever links I can find :) )

    I've been trying to research fats and figure out what and how much I should include in a balanced diet, but I've read a lot of contrasting information regarding saturated fat vs unsaturated fat.

    Trans fats and hydrogenated fats seem to be something to avoid totally, something I would have expected considering their association with heart and cholesterol issues.

    Then regarding saturated and unsaturated fats;
    i originally thought saturated fats were ok, but that based on what I've read seems totally off. So things like coconut oil (which I managed to get my family to start using :eek: - may not be a good alternative for stir frys ect? should I get rid of that considering some of my family members have concerns about cholseterol?)

    Unsaturated are apparently the best type - I think its polyunsaturated and monounsaturated - so fish, some oils and nuts ect.
    I'm trying to eat more fish - usually once or twice a week and a newly discovered favourite of mine is almond butter, or just almonds. ( I know portions should be small :) )

    Maybe I've got that wrong, but If anyone could tell me if I'm on the right track here I'd appreciate it. :)

    Thanks

    According to health advice I've received, you shouldn't eat more than 20% of saturated fat a day.

    Use coconut oil for cooking, don't worry about fatty meat(although I give it to the cats, they enjoy it more), eat plenty of fish, olive oil on a salad, nuts are good (but very calorie dence)

    It's not a case of one or the other have both, you need both. Just get it from natural sources.

    On a bit of a side note I've been getting most of my calories from fat, had to get a blood test a few weeks ago, blood pressure and cholseterol run in the family, that part all checked out fine.
