Why are men so cagey?

Im talking about when a person you've just started seeing mentions something personal in passing but you think, its far too soon to ask about this. So a few months later when things are more comfortable and solid you think "I wonder what that was about" and ask only to have the man clam up. Why mention it at all if its never going to be explained?

Who the hell remembers a question they asked in a casual conversation, months ago, and the reasons behind it?

That's a very general statement considering the example is so specific.

If this is a relationship issue, then this forum is the better bet. Though I'd suggest framing the question more specifically. Not a Ladies Lounge thread anyway as we don't like "all women/men are X type" threads.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
