New Year, New Sport, but not a resolution

I'm 6' 1", 15.5 stone but this was unmonitored over Christmas, and I'm in my mid 30s. Oh yeah, and I work a desk job with computers. I need some interesting sport/sporting hobby. In the past (like more then 10 years ago) I used to do mountain biking, rowing, kayaking but they were all dropped when I moved to Dublin.

Over Christmas, my wife pointed out that I had low tolerance for the family and said I should take up a sport of hobby as I really do nothing outside the house and family for some time. Therein lies my question ... are there any suggestions for good sports to take up in mid 30s (possibly for the first time) with a view to building my overall fitness level and having an outlet. I do not see myself as a footballer or anything like that, but I would be interested in a new challenge. I find road running and all that stuff tuff and give up after a few goes. Cycling I still do from time to time, but on road is boring too. Again, all suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Have you thought about training for a triathlon? (since you already have cycling & running exp and the distances are short enough) Or were you thinking more along the lines of a club, or team sport?

Not sure why moving to Dublin should spell the end of those, you have some of the best MTB in the country less than 40 mins from the M50, lots of it less than 20 mins, kayaking and rowing on the Liffey, good sea kayaking, lots of paddling in Wicklow and you're no distance from the Boyne, the Barrow etc. Dublin also has a greater concentration of clubs in all those sports than anywhere else. If you enjoyed them then, no reason not to enjoy them now if you want.

+1 on this. I know that you said that you find cycling on the road boring but if you were training for something in particular like a race then maybe you would be less bored?

Also given you sporting history, endurance events seem to favour you. There are also plenty of triathlon clubs around Dublin - see running and triathlon forum on here for info.
