Will RTE do their usual rubbish this year? no proper countdown and only a bunch of people who think they can sing.

Disgraceful national broadcaster, they really need to learn from BBC

Its kinda hard to even compare the 2 of them, BBC wins hands down.

If their able to pay 100,000s to their presenters why not a smallish firework display?

    Yes.
(The BBC don't pay for the fireworks I suspect either!)

I have no idea. Why would anyone be watching RTE at midnight on NYE?

The BBC have the rights to broadcast them live every year, so they do actually contribute every year to the fund.

But RTE are not poor as they make out to be and either is dublin city council.

i find the whole new years eve thing a bit meh to be honest

but the millennium new years eve was unforgiveable while other major citys throughout the world were having spectacular fireworks, Dublin had nothing only a poxsy concert...and what did RTE show..Joe Dolan live from killarney ffs

Good point and indeed, if RTE wasn't paying daft amounts to a select (out of date, boring farts I feel) few, then yes, maybe their occasional 'live' stuff might improve.

Its RTE though and for all the window-dressing and announcements the directors of the station makes yearly, I expect nothing much to chance with it in 2012.

Friggin' depressing watching RTE most of the time.
Its like a continuous never ending run of Eastenders, just depressing.

RTE got hundreds of complaints last year let's hope they get more this year and more every year until they finally give in and listen and learn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

ok OP..what would you like them to do??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,517 ✭✭✭RobitTV

Also everyone remember to tune into BBC1 For one the best firework displays in the world, a spectacle not to be missed. - 11:50pm BBC1

Try your best to get away from RTE1 - im sure RTE will hold their own failure of a "spectacle"

I Would like them to stop paying idiotic amounts of money to those boring, non-celebrities.

Stop putting on people who CANT sing every YEAR and stop putting on shows on new years eve related to god-damn people singing.

Have talks with dublin city council and arrange something that people WOULD enjoy to watch and complete with other major cities and actually CELEBRATE new years eve.

RTE should show they are a NATIONAL BROADCASTER instead of being like on a budget of 100 euro every new years eve.

DOn't need to watch the London fireworks on tv; will be standing on my terrace with a panoramic view of the fireworks from another 2 miles with no tall buildings obstructing the view.
