The Best Player To Watch?

Which player in the past 10 years had you creaming yourself when he got the ball.?

There have been some amazing dribblers and exciting players in the past 10 years, namelyCristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, Quaresma, Nani, Giggs etc...

What about the pinpoint passers in Xavi, Scholes, Sneijder, Pirlo or Iniesta? Did they tickle your fancy?

Or how about the lethal finishers? Did Ronaldo, Torres, David Villa, Klose or Drogba do it for you?

Or maybe you fancied the strong powerful players like Rooney or a Gattuso?

Perhaps you have a thing for the beasts at CB like Terry, Vidic, Nesta or Puyol?

Or you liked to keep it between the sticks with Casillas or Buffon.

So tell me who was/is your favourite player to watch? If there was a player who you could watch all day who would it be?

Perhaps someone who scored pings from 30 yards all day, or the player who effortlessly dribbles around players, or players who have great feet and movement?

I myself thought Ronaldinho was the best. He combined everything on the football pitch, Pace and Power with a delightful touch and amazing technique and untouchable dribbling skills. The day he brought the Bernabeau to a standing ovation was a magical magical day. However what also made me choose him,he played with a smile.

So who is your favourite or exciting player to watch in the world?

Was gonna come in and hoped to be the first to say Ronaldinho. There'll never be a player that entertaining again imo.

Why would you close the thread? That would defeat the whole purpose

    Messi for me

Midfield players of the ilk of Iniesta, Modric and Zizou. Players that can go around other players just as easy as they can make a defence splitting pass.

Maldini in defence. The guys movement, vision, reading of the game was superb.

In attack nobody will beat Kaka or Ronaldinho for entertainment. You could just watch in awe.

Messi is just great to watch too.

    Fernando Redondo for me.

Xabi Alonso would have to be mine, nothing better than watching him ping the ball from side to side for 90 minutes.

An honourable mention I'd have to give to Bergkamp, he was amazing in his prime.

Just has to be Frank Sinclair........

As finishing with my head has always been the weakest part of my game, i've always admired how easy this man makes it look. He kept everything simple but yet was brilliant to behold. Some of his diving headers also were ridiculous

This goal gets special mention - how many of us tried similar when playing heads and volleys?????

    King Henrik definitely. Class act!

    Luis Suarez.

I watched 90mins of every game since he arrived at Ajax. We've had a number of players good to watch over the past 10years, Eriksen, Sneijder, Zlatan to name a few, and if we were talking about the 1990's too I'd have to include Litmanen and Bergkamp but we're not.

Fact is we play in a sh*t league and I've had to watch a lot of very very sh*t games sometimes at sh*t hours (living in the States getting up at 5/6am on a Sunday to watch)....and I can tell you, with Luis on the field there was always 1 player who made the game worth watching.

Pinnacle being the 2010 season. 49 goals in 48 games. Every game he played in, every game, he did something special.

Could watch him all day, even if it's for Liverpool.

Ronaldinho, Kaka, Iniesta have all been mentioned, and rightly so.

Ill plum for Cristiano Ronaldo, absolute joy to watch him in person when he is full flow.

Also Berbatov, Raul, Xavi, Henry was great to watch too, Pires, Ibrahimovic

    Too many really, Vidic!

The best individual performance form a player I saw was when Ronaldo (Brazilian) tore United a new asshole at Old Trafford in the CL years ago. He was phenomenal that night (and most other nights of his career)

Ronaldinho, he was magician. His skill on the ball was out of this world.

Followed by Scholes pin point long passes.

Paul McShane is truly frighteningly bad. There is a classic youtube video of him that consists of 10 minutes of bloopers that he has made in a just a handful of games for Sunderland.

Clarence Seedorf. Seen him a few years ago at the Bernabeu a few seasons ago when Milan beat Madrid in the Champions League. Pato got all the plaudits but Clarence ran the show that night.

Second place goes to Puyol. Second best defender I've ever seen reading the game after McGrath.

Drogba in his pomp was magical.

My favourite players to watch are midfield schemers like Xavi and Pirlo. They're so composed and never look in danger of losing the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,303 ✭✭✭blue-army

Surprised there hasn't been a mention of this man yet.
    Absolute legend of the game.

Sneijder, Pirlo, Zidane, Xavi, Milner, Maldini, Haris Vuckic

I know there are some odd choices in there but I'm serious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭1mcampo1

I love watching Silva and Balotelli. Silva seems to just glide around the pitch, such technique on the ball and finds space effortlessly without it. Balotelli because he is so unpredictable!

Gerrard for me in the prem.
    Zidane outside.
From what i've seen with my own eyes.

Nobody mentioned King Eric ? , prob cause a bit more than 10 years I guess

For me it's Xavi. His passing , vision, completion ratio are just incredible.

John Sheridan was a magnificent footballer, around USA 94 he was playing some incredible stuff but I think Ryan Giggs takes some beating...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,443 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Diego Armando Maradona the best and the most entertaining ever imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,369 ✭✭✭LostBoy101

In defense it has to be Vidic as he reads his game well and a great leader for United. Shame he is out for the season now.

Paul Scholes the ginger master is an incredible midfielder with brilliant vision and very enjoyable to watch. Iniesta is another player I enjoy watching as well.

King Henrik Larrson has to be one of the most entertaining striker I've ever watched and never complains.

Loved watching Riquelme play when he was on fire for Villareal a couple of years ago.

Gerrard- Top class exciting explosive football player.

Rooney- As a Liverpool fan i hate to say it, but on his day he's just a beast. great player.

RVP- A class act, beautiful player to watch.

Alonso- Another class act, a puppetmaster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,033 ✭✭✭DoctorEdgeWild

    C. Ronaldo - Absolute pleasure to watch and so exciting when he's on the ball.

Robbie Savage - Loved watching him play, loved his style, didn't love him so much to follow him onto the dancing show though. Enjoy listening to him on the radio every week too.

Craig Bellamy - Fantastic player, hope he finds a good home at Liverpool. Really enjoy watching him.

Gattuso - One player I would have loved to see sign for us at Old Trafford. So committed to his role and would love to have been able to play like him.

Gabriel Heinze - Became an instant favourite for me. Not terribly talented like some but I really enjoyed watching him play.

    No mention for Bergkamp?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,543 ✭✭✭JerryHandbag

Ruud Gullit. Absolutely idolised him as a kid and then he went and tore through the Irish defence in Italia 90 and scored. Man did that hurt.

Thankfully Quinny saved the day :D
