Just watching the latest Other Voices on the RTE Player and I feel shocked what has become of him.

It's Fleetfoxitis (or The Hipster Cancer), you can catch it at certain music venues, coffee houses and some record stores. There's a cure but you have to go through Leonardcohenosis before you're back to normal.

Never bothered looking into it but still cant believe Cannonball was the X factor winning single or whatever,didnt think Damien Rice was that well known in the UK

Yep, met him a few times on the 67a back in the day and around Maynooth, nice guy, quiet and kept to himself is how he always came across to me.

I think it was more the X factor and who were covering it rather than Damien Rice's popularity or lack of in England.

I heard he's releasing his new album on vinyl only so as to keep one step ahead (or behind, depending on how you look at it) of people uploading/downloading on the tinternet.

Really? Seems pretty stupid. Theres one thing trying to be Indie and all but that is more or less forcing you to pirate if a torrent site is the only place you can get a digital copy. I would have no problem admitting thats what I would do instead of manually recording each track on a computer just so you could have it on your iPod. Suppose he doesnt need the money.

This sounds like bull to be honest. It's very easy to copy from vinyl to mp3 etc these days. It'd be online within hours of being released. The guy isn't stupid, he'd know that wouldn't work, so I'd say that's total fiction.

Well, let's see, he held out for a deal whereby control of distribution was covered by a large established record company while he kept ownership of his songs - and now he's made a mint from his song being covered by someone else. Hardly the actions of a dunce. But yeah, maybe he doesn't realise that music can be copied from vinyl, you could be right.
