What are you doing for NEW YEARS EVE?
Does anyone know if there's any fireworks displays on for New years eve. In Limerick or around or anywhere in Ireland, i would travel to get a decent one. It would be great but it's a shame you never see this happening all over on one of the Top nights of all ''New years eve''.

Ah, new years eve. The biggest let down of a night out, every year!

Still not entirely sure what I'm gonna be doing. Definitely not going to be in Longford, anyway! Have a funny feeling I'll somehow end up in Belfast... But most probably a roof-top party at a friend's house in Dublin. :D

I'm planning on hanging around Boards AND TYPING random WORDS in CAPS.

Going to a party. It is kind of exciting the countdown etc.

House Party is the only way.

Fireworks does sound good, though. House party + fireworks = good times.

    Probably stay in, though.

I'm from Longford, but going out in Longford is generally sh!t. Like, ultra sh!t. It's nice once a year on a busy night to catch up with people from school you never really talked to, but are suddenly great friends with you when you're home from college(ie, last night). But too much of it kills it. Spent NYE out there last year, and it was pretty lame.

I like Belfast, it's fun. I've had a weird urge to go to Belfast lately, I think I could accidentally end up doing it drunkenly... <_<

Because Dublin's awesome and I know the right people?

In the years I was out in the pubs for NYE I was more annoyed and frustrated, they're normally packed to the hilt, people hugging / kissing / and worse with strangers..

And since Ive been hanging at home, I've seen drunk neighbours come out shaking hands and shyte when they normally wouldn't even give each other the time of day, well it seems fúcking stupid to me.

Don't go out on NYE anymore. Always found it a load of rubbish and over-estimated. It is just another over-hyped publicans' bonanza.

Unless my best friend decides to not go to Galway and to have a house party, then I'll be partying all on my lonesome at home.

Paddy's Day, Stephen's Day and NYE are the three worst nights out every year!

Ah, new years eve. The biggest let down of a night out, every year!

Hate people bitchin' about what a let down NYE is! Take control and do something you want to do and make your own fun. It's a let down because you allow it to be.

With thread after thread and comment after comment of people saying how **** NYE has always been and how they're not going out for it, I think this year might actually be like any other Saturday night out, which is why it should be decent. Well and that I haven't been out on a Saturday night since 5th Nov

I might head out for some pints. If not then I'll wait at home and personally supervise the changing of the family calendar. Yeah if you wanna get shi* done right then you gotta do it yourself.

If you don't like New Years Eve, then don't celebrate it - don't spend it with friends, don't spend it with family, don't see it as a time to kick back & enjoy the end of the year & the start of a new one.

Just sit at home & moan and whinge about how shite it is & how much of a let down it is.

The rest of us will be celebrating it with people who are not cronic moany fuckers.

For a second I thought this thread would be about the current movie called New Year's Eve. If you're a guy, and your significant udder expresses the slightest hint that you should go and see New Year's Eve on New Year's Eve ... dump her, then shoot her, and not necessarily in that order.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Im curious as to what most people in Ireland would celebrate on New Years Eve when 2012 promises to be as depressing and miserable as 2011.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,698 ✭✭✭✭Princess Peach

I'm having a triple celebration that night cause I have a lot going on :D House party is the best option. Past years I had either an over-crowded expensive nightclub, or stay home with the parents.

Although I'm sure I'll get drunk and cry anyway, New Years tradition and all.

I'm no sap, but I find NYE possibly the most depressing night of the year, for no reason exactly.

I'll sit in with music on, phone off and not bother looking at the clock until the morning, at which point i'll just go "oh look, the date has changed, who would have believed it!?"

NYE usually sucks. Nobody can decide where to be, or will even commit to something in case something better comes along, them doesn't. I usually stay home and we watch a dvd, then ring family at 12 and celebrate that way. At the in-laws this year, be a nice change from being, just the two of us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,605 ✭✭✭Fizman

Me and a load of my mates (including all the other halves) have rented 3 houses in Dingle and will all be going down for the entire weekend. Did it for 2 of the last 3 NYs too. Great fun altogether, genuinely looking forward to it. About 22 of us in total, a few of which I haven't seen for a good while too.

I will probably just stay in and continue to listen to my awesome new headphones. If I go out I will just get depressed and probably cry at the countdown because my boyfriend will be half way across the country and I am soppy gob****e.

I'm sick of people saying New Year's Eve is crap/waste of money/disappointing.
For some people, it's a great time to be with friends and family, ringing in the New Year and soaking up the atmosphere.
And before you say the atmosphere is "forced", nobody's standing on the bar with a megaphone screaming "Have fun!"-the atmosphere is there anyway.
Lighten up ffs..or stay at home and be boring.

I used to hate new years eve- always a messy let down, but the last five year it has rocked.

Me and the OH have a tradition of Christmas 2. It involves staying in, getting too much pizza, getting hammered, playing SW battlefront 2/timesplitters and exchanging our christmas presents.

It keeps the christmas buzz going after the 25th too :)
