    Giants In:

    Victor Cruz
    JPP
Steve Weatherford (he has been such a huge improvement over dodge and consistently been pegging people inside their own 20)

The list always provides a good laugh. It's turned into a joke these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

I think I read somewhere that someone wanted Chad Clifton in. I think he's played in five games.

    I agree, it'll provide a few chuckles.

Ah the good old popularity bowl no NFL season is complete without it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

Joke of a weekend and joke of a game. Just give the players a weekend away, the game itself is pointless. I always have a quiet chuckle when a player these days is labelled a "pro-bowler" as some sort of badge of class.

Aaron Rodgers didn't make it last year.

The pro bowl makes me sad, it's a harsh reminder of not having football for 6 long months.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,067 ✭✭✭tallaghtoutlaws

At least they will get a large audience as I can't see Tom Brady or Big Ben playing in it leaving Tebow as the 3rd option due to the fans vote. You know the NFL will cash in on the fans decision. Should never have let the fans ever vote a 1/3 of the vote. The Popularity bowl was stupid before hand and even worse with the fans vote.

Id be inclined to agree yeah, 50/50 vote split between the coaches and players, there's always some head scratchers due to the fan votes.

Having said that, getting voted in is a nice honour for the players if nothing else, i love to see broncos lads get in, its a reward for those who deserve recognition.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,341 ✭✭✭✭Chucky the tree

I wouldn't trust players voting either. 50/50 split to coaches and associated press.

Wonder when was the last time anyone anywhere said 'I'm looking forward to the Pro Bowl', even the Community Shield in soccer has more ooomph.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

Ah, the pro bowl. Some Ravens should make it: Ray Rice, Vonta Leach, Oher would if the fans decided but deservedly won't, Ben Grubbs and Marshal Yanda should but won't, Ed Reed will make it for shutting down the deep ball most of the time, Ray Lewis will make it on reputation, Ngata and Suggs will make it deservedly while our woeful special teams should be kept out.

It's more about the players being honoured, as i said already, i love to see broncos getting in, even though the match itself is not worth a damn.

At least the selection isn't like the MLB all-star game where EVERY team has to be represented. And that game decides home field advantage in the world series!

At least the selection isn't like the MLB all-star game where EVERY team has to be represented. And that game decides home field advantage in the world series!

in fairness though - at least they'll take the game seriously when something is at stake....

if the Pro Bowl decided where the Super Bowl was to be hosted the year after I can see a way better contested game.....

wouldn't like to see it happen but it would make the game a better contest and would make you want to watch it....

went to watch it last year and turned it off after 10 minutes... was an absolute joke of a game.. none of the players gave a ****e at all...

Vic Lombardi reports that Tebow is the 1st alternate choice selection for QB and will make the pro bowl if any withdraw. Von Miller selected as a rookie which should wrap up DROY for him

EDIT: Second apparently, though Schaub is probably the first.

Is the probowl selection show been shown anywhere other than nfl network ? Is it on nfl.com to watch ?

Likely they'll appear as Tom Brady always disappears for obscure surgery or a golf tournament.

Schuab is on IR so he won't won't have been in contention. Andy Dalton would be my guess.

Well he coulda gone out after his 3 wins...no reason not to...understandable that he wouldn't have gone after losing to NY! But since the formats changed he has been eligible to go since he hasn't been in the SB!

Common knowledge he's just not into it...just like the appearing on the injury list every week!

It's his own choice and all but if it was me I'd like to appear in it at every chance...games a bit of farce but it's a bit of a fun with guys you could never get to play with!

Same with Andre Carter. Out for season so a back up DE will be in contention i.e Tebow.

Huge compliment to Freeney from his fellow players and coaches that he got included even though the season the Colts have had!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

No Stafford. Some are questioning that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,174 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

And who exactly do you think he deserves to be in there instead of?! Manning has been the better QB in my eyes due to the way he's led NY back into games, I know Stafford has the better record but he has receivers who haven't let him down as much as Manning's!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

An argument could be made for Romo either. Even Cam Newton for the improvement he made to the offense. Stafford had tremendous help from Megatron, who drew 3 defenders and even then was able to go up and get it. That said, the Giants receivers also made lots of big plays.

Don't shoot the messenger. Just passing on what NFL folks on Twitter are musing.

Not shooting the messenger just seeing what you think! They're also asking questions about the likes of Dalton,Avril,Brown....guys who aren't near making a Pro Bowl roster!

The correct answer as to the 3rd NFC pro bowl spot should go to is Tony Romo. 65.4 %, 3895 yds, 29/9 TD/INT, 102.2 rating (good for fourth in the league behind Rodgers, Brees and Brady respectively)

I'd say his lack of yards let him down!

I think so too, and I'd almost give the edge to the AFC based on having a better secondary. There's a negligible difference between the skill positions.

Yeah I would agree with this. In fact if all of those players were to play in a high intense actual game rather than the pussy game the Pro Bowl is, It would be a really tight affair.

Wasn't part of Albert Haynesworth's incentives contract based on him making a pro bowl? How can you put the results of a fan vote into a contract?

The fans vote only makes up 1/3 the voting for the Pro bowl so I guess the other 2/3 by players and coaches is seen as enough to put as an incentive for bonuses.

Michael Oher led the fans voting for tackles which is a bit of a joke as most Ravens fans would tell you he doesn't deserve to be selected.
And in the end he wasn't - fourth alternate. If ever there was an example of an popular player with name recognition being selected by fans it's Oher.

Ray Rice, Vonta Leach, Suggs, Ngata all deserved to go.
Marshal Yanda selected and that's a good call.
Ben Grubbs the left guard was overlooked, missed a few games this season but he is critical to the team, it's a different team without him. Maybe next year

Ed Reed quietly getting the job done

Ray Lewis tbh doesn't deserve to go but got in on reputation

The Ravens player who got overlooked was the cornerback, Laudarius Webb. One of the top corners in the AFC but wouldn't be that well known around the league. He'll be selected in future years

Our kicker Billy Cundiff was selected last year and our punter Sam Koch deserved to be selected. But not this year, both are doing badly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

The Eli and Rivers selections are a joke tbh!!

He deserves to be there instead of Manning. Eli has been poor in several games whereas Stafford has been poor in only a few. The latter has been more consistent. Eli probably nudged ahead on the basis of his seniority and accrued respect. Stafford still has to earn that apparently.

    Philip Rivers, really??

I'm a Chargers fan and have to agree with you that he'd a disaster of a season for about 75% of it. The only thing is look at all the other AFC QBs and none of them stand out as being shunned. The main ones that could have an issue are Schaub but he's on IR, Dalton who was probably as effective as Rivers this year and Tebow but a lot of his good work was too late in the season. Rivers was way below the standard you'd associate with the pro bowl but no one stepped up to take the spot from him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,687 ✭✭✭✭jack presley

Another bizarre thing about the pro-bowl is that the TV blackout policy is still in play. So if the stadium doesn't sell out, the whole of Hawaii (not just Oahu) doesn't get to watch it on TV (which could be a blessing in disguise I suppose)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,052 ✭✭✭poldebruin

I'd have put Dalton ahead of Rivers at QB
Marshaun Lynch ahead of Gore at RB
Hernandez ahead of Gates at TE
Cruz ahead of Jennings at WR
Stafford instead of E. Manning at QB
and Freeney or Polamalu shouldn't be there based on this year either.

I won't pretend to know enough about O-line play to suggest alternates!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,174 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

    No Polamalu?! Explain that one?!

    kmart6 wrote: »

I would have Polamalu in there as statistically he is the 4th best SS in the AFC. And the guys above him are Bell from Miami, Branch from the Raiders, Wilson from the Bills and under him you have Babineaux and Quin and a few others including Dawkins who didn't do a lot and Leonhard who might have been worth a shot had he not gone out to injury. AFC doesn't have many Top Strong Safeties hard to see past Polamalu.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,174 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

Oh I'm not saying he shouldn't be in there....I think he should, just wondering why poldebruin is saying that!

He might not have had his best season but the way he covers the field is just phenomenal!
