    http://www.harveynorman.ie/services/catalogues/big-sale/big-sale-electrical?cat=3030

    It's on sale tomorrow.

As for the comparison, from just looking at the given specs I'd get the Samsung Harvey Norman one. Might want to look at reviews as well if you want a complete comparison.
But purely on specs, the Samsung:
    • has 3 HDMI ports vs 2
    • is €30 cheaper
    • speakers have higher power
    • tv consumes less electricity
    • will work on Saorview, the Irish Digital Tv (the Toshiba says "This TV will not work with digital signals in the Republic of Ireland, you will require a digital set top box or satellite source ."
    • 5ms response time vs 8ms

I'm sure the list goes on... to be honest I think it's a no brainer, get the Samsung.

Many (myself included) have been thoroughly pleased to extricate themselves from Sky and given the pressures many household budgets have and /or will come under, Saorview is a most welcome addition.

The freesat / Saorview option won't suit everyone (if you want Sky Sports or discovery/history channels etc.) but as the majority of my viewing is across RTE/BBC/CH4/Film Four, it's great to have so many quality channels (including HD) gratis.

Very understandable obviously with the country the way it is, but surely if things are that bad buying a new 32" tv is not the answer?

Anyway, looks like a great deal.

Saorview is quite useful if your main TV supply breaks down or for non main televisions. Personally I enjoy RTÉ 2 HD which you won't find on Sky or UPC.

Although it won't be used everyday Saorview is a handy backup.

Mpeg4 so it can pick up saorview.

If anyone prefers bricks & mortar, Powercity have a Nordmende for €249.95 which is Saorview. They also have a Toshiba for €299.95

Can only assume its the same 32" that's on offer in curryrs. Honestly id still get the Samsung lcd. Although, it is technically older tech. The only advantages would be power consumption and the thickness factor. The power consumption difference would be minimal at best and in virtually every other way, the Samsung would be the better set.

    It looks good.

    What brand?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,685 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

OK so LG are a massive manufacturer of LCD panels, as well as Samsung, and a lot of their panels will end up in other brands, but Sony TVs have consistently for years got very good reviews, and are known to be one of the better brands out there.

To say you are going to get the same quality by buying a Bush or an Alba or Cello or Technika is just utter nonsense, as I said.

And another thing that makes the better brands a better TV is the software that they have inside them to handle picture processing etc. The likes of Samsung, Sony, Tosh etc could take a panel and tweak it using sophisicated software processing to get the best out of it, whereas the cheap brands software is poorer.

You buy a Cello or Technika if you want. I have seen enough of these in action to help me stick with my well known and well reviewed brands.

Unusual name i'll check it again.

    Said Lenova is actually IBM

Don't know how accurate was just told it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,685 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

IBM don't make laptops any more, Lenova took over their business a while back, and their laptops are highly reviewed. So Lenova aren't a 'cheap' brand just cos people don't know them.

Did they make pc/laptops before takeover of IBM.

I've been in 2 factory's that were sold to another company, nothing changed only owners

BTW do you know which models LG Samsung are sold in, that are not own branded?

I'm looking for a LG Samsung Toshiba

I have been following this thread as i am also looking for a good value 32" LCD.
I called in to Expert today. They have a Nordmende Model NM32741M4 at €299 and a Samsung 32 D400 at €320. When I Google the Nordmende it does not seem to appear on sites in the UK or Ireland.
Similarly in Harvey Normans, their LG 32LK3300 at €299 seems to appear on sites in India and USA but very little on UK or Irish sites.
Their seems to be good value in the 32" Toshiba in Expert at €299 and Powercity at €259 earlier today. Not sure if the 2 Toshibas are the same model though.
Harvey Normans also had 32" Techwood at €239 and 32" Finlux at €249 today.

Any suggestions or advice on the above would be appreciated especially regarding the sets that do not appear on other UK sites ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭unfit2006

It looks as if I will narrow my choice down to either the 32" LG model LK330U or the Toshiba in Harvey Normans, or the Nordemende in Expert. All three 32" LCD and are available at the same price, €299. (I'm not sure if the Nordemende can still be got for €259 in PowerCity.)

Any suggestions to help me with my choice ??

I am also looking at different models. One piece of advice - the above all only have 2 hdmi - enough for some but not everyone. E.g. freesat hd, dvd player, media player is 3....though you can get splitters... I'm looking at 32" hannspree LED in DID for 300 with 3 hdmi and Pvr function.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭unfit2006

The Hannspree certainly looks good at that money. It must be the cheapest 32" LED in the shops at present.
