But Cork had other plans and came from 7 points down midway through the second half to defeat Dublin by 0-21 to 2-14 in this final. Cork showed true grit to overhaul Dublin, thus winning one All-Ireland and two Allianz League titles in the space of 12 months.

Eanna Murphy's 82nd-minute goal drove Clarinbridge into their first AIB All-Ireland Club Hurling Final since 2002, as they beat De La Salle in extra-time at Semple Stadium. Murphy's last-gasp strike denied De La Salle a second final appearance in three years. John Mullane, who led the scoring with 0-11, and substitute Lee Hayes both pointed to put the Waterford and Munster champions on course for next month's final. But Murphy found the net after taking a pass from Alan Kerins to keep his side's All-Ireland dreams alive.

A Declan Hannon goal in the 74th minute was the main difference between the sides. There were far better goal than that scored during the year.
It wouldn't be in the Top 10.

Anyone who thinks that the Darren O'Sulivan goal isn't a clear-cut goal of the year contender (the other pick for me is Tipp's goal in the minor football final) either is letting anti-Kerry bias effect their judgment or doesn't understand, y'know, physics.

    Nope.

For hurling I couldn't see why Alan Kerins' goal against Clare wasn't in the top 15.

A cracker of a game also and this game and the club semi final are definitely the top 2 hurling games of the year. Also another game worth a mention is the Munster Under 21 hurling semi final between Cork and Tipp, another cracker of a game.

Yeah, sure. You're not biased at all though ;)

With regards to the hurling goals, can anyone tell me why Richie Hogan's goal in the AI final was so good it made the top ten twice :p (it was number 9 and number 3). Thought I was imagining it last night but checked the TG4 player there to make sure.

Heard Gavin O'Brien's goal got goal of the year in hurling. Justified choice, grea.t goal and well done to him. He scored a super goal late on against Clare in the Munster final as well, dunno if it was considered though.

The slow-motion replay of that goal was fantastic, love those camera's. Deserved to be number one in it's own right but the camerawork sealed the deal.

PS - Anyone else think Canning is just getting token mentions at this stage, two goals in the top six this year, one of which included about 25 steps. Great skill afterward but shouldn't have counted.

Exactly. A big goal scored under intense pressure and one which won the Sam Maguire Cup. The best goal of the year indeed and taken very well on the biggest day of the year.

The first one was supposed to be his goal against Waterford but they showed the Tipp one as you said. Shoddy editing

Possibly should have been in the top 15 but I don't think it should have been near the top. Look at the goal that won it. Big goal, under intense pressure which won the Tom Markham Cup. Far better than McMenamin's goal in my view.
Personally, I think the top 4 (in football anyway) were a good bit ahead of the rest scored this season. After that, you could make a decent argument for several other goals which didn't make the top 15.

The fact that he took something in the region of 140,000 steps between his initial play of the ball and his eventual kick of it probably mitigated against it somewhat.

In fairness, there were at least a dozen steps taken. A goal that breaks the rules shouldn't really be goal of the year. Probably my favourite of the year though!

I suspect you're just going to react with a different flamebaiting angle since in all fairness, anybody with a passing interest in football can see how illegal the goal was and is unlikely to waste time trying to say it was ok.

Christ, never knew the wounds of defeat are still felt in Kerry. If it wasn't that it would be the referees fault or the linesman or the wasp getting in the way, blah blah blah. Get over it, it was a class goal at a moment when Dublin were almost beaten. It has to be admired for sheer will and determination on behalf of Kevin McM and the Dublin team. I suppose Keane2097 you will have to go over to the soccer forum for this year as you are still tasting sour graphes over on this forum. It was a well finished goal and Dublin finished as the better team.

    Will and determination, yes.
    Well finished goal, yes.
Three times as many steps as allowed, yes, therefore...
    Goal of the year, no.

The McManamon goal broke the rules and shouldn't have been allowed, never mind being considered for goal of the year. I'm happy enough to admit that now the dust has settled. No sour loser or sore grapes here.

I'm not a Dublin supporter but I thought Kevin McM goal was class along with Darren O Sullivans goal against Limerick.

People argue about Eoin Mulligans goal against Dublin in 2005, eventhough it was a perfect goal with individual skill. Kevin mcM goal was a marginal call but I didn't see anything wrong with it to be fair. The Kerry defenders could have pulled him down and prevented it. If you look at it this way the same could be said for Richie Hogan against Tipp in the 2009 All Ireland Hurling Final, he must have taken 15 steps before he played the ball and he somehow was awarded a penalty.

If they're being broadcast on TG4 then why all the hate towards RTE? The games are being shown, people are getting their fix.

If RTE showed it all you'd no doubt criticise them for putting the smaller broadcasters out of business.

So I say again. If the games are being shown either way, what's the problem?

Class station, their coverage does put RTE in the shade but as someone pointed out as long as someone was showing the games it doesn't matter as we get our fix.

I would think most peoples gripe with RTE is that we have to pay a TV licence for very little return on the GAA front, despite them being the national games, and that they put much better production and effort into rugby and soccer than do for hurling or football.

    one small step.

but they still dont have a decent highlights or preview program. the sunday game is far too much waffle and not enough balanced highlights of games. and that 'committee room' thing Marty had, the less said, the better.
