Hi, need your advise please!! Few days ago after work went with friend to our friends house for a few pints, I parked outside their gaff, we stayed there for a while, then when i wanted go back Home my car didnt start, probably battery cos I left radio on, lads came out to c whats wrong, but theyre so drunk that I decided to sort it out the next day, went back to party after, had few drinks and got a lift home later. Next day in the morning garda woke me up saying my car burnt out, they came over to write report . its a ****ing joke, beautiful merc burnt out Im so pissed off, so here I'm now claiming me insurance, the car has been towed by garda , its with my insurance now, but had a call this morning from assesor - he wants to meet me at a place, where my car was burn out! I dont understant - the car is not there anymore! Does anybody knows whats the procedure in this case??? Any info much appreciated, tx

Tell him the car has been removed by AGS, let him view it if he wants, show him where it was burnt out too :)

Did you burn your car out to claim insurance??

Of course you didn't, so nothing to worry about in meeting the assesor at the scene of the incident. he will likely just want to establish exactly where and how the car was parked up.

its really the assesors job to try to reduce the cost of the claim so I imagine he is trying to find out the exact circumstances why you left the car there and what caused the fire and also if anyone else was involved who might be liable to cough up.

Possibly he has in mind that the car was faulty when it didnt start (ie electrical problem) and could you have done anything to safeguard it (like unhook the battery perhaps)

Did you tell him the car wasn't there? If you did, then he probably just wants to see where it was parked. If where you parked it was (for example) beside a leaking gas line, that would probably affect the claim

Seems odd that someone would admit going to a house party for a few beers online and that they wanted to drive home. I'm going to give the OP the benefit of the doubt that they weren't drinking. But we know it's a Merc, we know it's burned out, and there's an Assessor on the way. Could influence his claim, I'd be editing the OP if I could.

He probably just wants to take a look and a photo of the spot where it was burnt out as part of his report he will submit the insurance company.

Since when do folks who don't drink have a glass of wine? You also said you had a few drinks, not a glass of wine in your earlier post.

I dont understant - the car is not there anymore!

    Very defensive OP

The assessor just wants to see where the incident happened.
So arrange a time and meet them outside the house

If you have third party only cover, you won't be covered. If you have Fire & Theft or Comprehensive you should be fine.

Oh yeah, if it's Quinn they are terrible for paying out even if the claim is a valid one.

ach, leave the poor girl alone, she's only inexperianced at this sort of thing and alcohol has nothing to do with it. I'm sure.

Don't worry, it's just procedure. If you can't travel there, tell them so , they have the address and they can find it themselves and call to your home to talk to you.

A group of young scumbags decided to light up a car when someone was napping in it after a night out once across the road from me.. consider yourself lucky you went home and didn't stay in the car as well.

Oh, and don't expect any result from the Gardai as from past experiences, you have a better chance finding the culprit yourself. Get your money from your insurance and try to accept it!

I am not sure about this thread,
    An incompletely burnt out car,
A few pints and a drive home,
    A drinking non drinker
A merc driver with no money
    A girl with a merc
Not sure if she has third party or fully comp
    Get a life OP

Agreed. I understand one Boardsie recommending to watch what you write and leave as proof online but some of the others here moaning on like Big Brother meets Big Mammy.....

Just give the OP some advice re original questions and don't be judge, jury and executioner re drink and driving. I think the OP clearly understands the law there. And didn't ask about that anyway.

What model merc was it? You'd be surprised how many mercs have self combusted without warning.

The fact that it wouldn't start may have been a sign of something up.

As for getting your car back, even if its only the inside that is burned, it will still be a complete write off as the cost of the interior and all the related electronics etc etc would likely lead to it being uneconomical to repair. Not to mention, any aluminium panels or other parts becoming warped due to the heat.

Op the assessor who calls around will most likely be an ex Garda. The will ask questions to check how consistent your story is and if it's practiced. The will also conduct a credit assessment to check if you have been keeping up with loan repayments. Finally they will create a sketch of the area where the fire happened and ask you questions about it.

Happened me when my car was stolen. In fact I was interviewed by a pretty high ranking ex Garda . Nothing to worry about its just to pick out the people who burned their own cars out or arranged for them to be stolen.

They are sent out due to the answers you gave on the phone when you reported it and the circumstances of the claim.

Be honest and be relaxed they will
Most likely be nice and just ticking the boxes unless you have something to worry about. A fire starts on purpose is easy to detect btw

I didnt worry at all , as I said b4 just wasnt sure about meeting in that place, but now I understand he had to meet me there!
