Just thought I'd let all of the boards people know that the after Christmas Sale in Next will be huge!

I was looking at the sale clothes today and the prices and going to be tiny. I was looking at a top that was €45 will be just €5!!!!

If you get in late on Christmas Eve you might even get something on Sale already!

Well to be honest it will be the first time that the sale will be good. The clothes are usually brutal that they put out. i do agree the prices are low but that'd purely it

They are putting EVERYTHING out. Its going to be a bit hard to find sizes but the clothes won't just be the old crap.

And you know this? How ?

They have never put everything out before. Go in there on xmas eve afternoon and you will see the "tat" all boxed and ready for the for the racks as soon as the doors close to the public.

Its been getting worse, year on year. I dont see what is going to change this time around. 26th Dec? 5am ? They can stuff it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,396 ✭✭✭lindtee

Don't believe it either. At best the tat they bring out will be half price. Don't like Next sales. So much better value (for the real bargain hunters) to be found elsewhere. There are sales on year round, bargains to be found year round. Plus there is no way I'll be heading to a shop on St. Stephen's day. Will be spending it with family and stuffing my face with all the sweetie and food deals I've picked up!

If you try to get in late on xmas eve to get a bargain you will be disappointed as the shops are closing at 3pm :D
You would never get sale items on xmas eve anyway. If you work there you should know that and from what ive seen the reductions arent as huge as you are saying. They are good but not that good

Agree, I have a friend in the US who's wife orders Next kids clothes from the UK and ships over.

My problem is you can never get two items in the same size, and I have twins. But there is usually some good deals to be gotten...

It will just be the tat that no one wanted at Christmas. Thats what all January sales are!

It won't even be that. It will be surplus trade tat that they buy in specifically for the sale.

I used to work there and always bought loads in the kids sale as I will again this year.

But I refuse to shop on St Stephan's day so I'll be first in the que for the 27th.

About 75% of what was on the shop floor on x-mas eve was marked down. Obviously, short sleeved styles that came in 2 weeks before x-mas were carried over.

There's not a hope they'll put everything out, it appears the OP works there and got way too over-excited at the prospect of a sale..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,618 ✭✭✭milltown

The kids clothes can be OK. Otherwise, the Next sales are the same every year. Sh1te that didn't budge in the previous few years brought in and marked down in the hope somebody will snap it up in a sale frenzy. Just watch how much gear shows up for the sale with union jack logos and bulldogs and the like. Stuff they wouldn't bother giving space in an Irish store normally.

Because I work there, in the Children's Department.

Just about everything in the Stock room has sale tags on them, and its not just stuff that's lying there ages because when I have to go and get sizes for someone I have to take the sales tags off it, its the stuff that they have on the floor right now.

Most of the stuff that I seen was in the Childrens or Home Dept though.

Im sure they are all having a sale, but I think different stores will have different prices and clothes.
I'm in the one in Blanchardstown WestEnd.

If they are selling EVERYTHING could Next be one of the big retail chains rumoured to be leaving Ireland in the new year?

Nothing worse than an over excited newbie.

All prices are the same in every store, obviously different stores will carry different stock, the one im in isnt half the size of blanch so couldnt possibly have the same range of clothes.

Every next store will be opening on the 26th.

It wont be online in Ireland just UK and NI only.

I buy quite a lot of my clothes in Next, but the stuff they have in their sales is completely different to the stuff they have normally - its usually garish, ugly rubbish that I wouldn't wear in a fit. I don't know where they get it from.

Probably stuff that was available to order in the directory. They dont buy anything in for the sales. They just empty the warehouses which would be why you didnt see the items in store.

Regardless of how good the sale is I won't be going on principal. Feel sorry for the staff. Not much of a Christmas if you have to work well past closing on xmas eve to get the store ready for a sale that starts at 5am for staff on st. stephens day. Sure they can't even take a drink on Christmas nite. Talking to the girls in my local store they are very upset having to work the 26th and don't get the pay rates they used to get.
Shame on Next - a sale on the 27th would have performed just as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,625 ✭✭✭wmpdd3

Totally agree, but the first time they opened on the 26th the ATV was the highest ever. So it proved if there was not other clothing competition open the Next sale customers spent way more. Of course this doesn't take into account returns. So like all mad opening hours, its customer demand. This is why I refuse to shop on St. Stephan's day.

The was the sale stock works is, every week, about 1 new style comes in per sq meter of shop. If there's excess stock or a lack of space, the stock that is not on the top 50 best seller is sent 'off-site' to the ware house to be marked down for the sale and then it is transferred back into store to be sold through during the sale.

That's it, no big mystery, remember the sales are only every 13 weeks, customers wouldn't usually remember all stock that comes in but the staff do as they have to prep it coming an and going off-site.

And yes, as soon as any union jack crap came in, I'd off-site it straight away. So yes that would usually end up in the sale.

Its so long ago since I worked there, I off-sited all the camouflage stuff that came in for newborn babies. I thought nobody would buy it, it flew out during the sale!!

Girlfriend works in Next. They put 90% of stock out. Everything that is gone out of season or whatever, not into clothes, is put out.

The only things that aren't on sale are the things they put out early for the next season.

Its brilliant, if you like the clothes, with 50% or more off everything. But people start queuing from 5AM some places.

If you go to blanchardstown on the 26th at 5am, you'll be be at the far end of the mall. They'll be queing there from 3. Nutjobs.

I have 3 boys (13,11 and 8) and don't think Next's boys clothes are worth queing up for at all. As for myself, I could nicer clothes far cheaper elsewhere.

Newwifey has said it very well. I hope it doesn't draw the crowds in. Shoppers have the choice whether they go or not. Staff do not, and I believe from reading on other forums that the rate of pay for the day isn't that great either.

Im hoping its not too busy either, when they had it on the 26th a couple of years ago it was supposed to be a one off and we were paid triple time. This year its double and a half but we are only in for 6 hrs so although it sounds ok im actually worse off than if i had the day off because i claim sw ( as would the majority of staff due to a 16hr rule) and i loose my weeks payment for being in that extra day.

And the temp workers have it even worse. They don't get paid anything extra at all. I will be getting 7.88 after tax per hour for working Christmas Eve and Stephens Day.

Does anyone know what time the next in Blanchardstown will open at for the Sales?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,625 ✭✭✭wmpdd3

6am, they are all open at 6am afaik, imagine the smell of drink in the shop?

That was the worst thing about doing the 5-2 shift on the 27th of Dec, rank smell of stale booze and fags.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,871 ✭✭✭Karen23

My cousin loves the Next sale , she's one of those that queue outside , she buys loads for her little girl but I went one year and wouldnt be bothered going again. To me it seemed like they were just trying to get rid of what didnt sell throughout the year. I didnt see anything I had liked or bought there before the sale.

I read advise on another forum, saying to get a trolly, grab everything, throw in the trolly and sort through it afterwards, disgarding what you don't want at the next sale:eek: Hope that no-one actually does this:mad: (although I believe it does happen) I don't know why they don't have the sale on the Irish Next site.

Swore that I was not going in today but was speaking to a girl in store on 23rd and she told me that a good portion of the stock was remaining for the sale. It was aready priced on the reverse of the label at that stage so you had a good indication of what you were going to get. Headed down at 5.55 this morning. Blanch. Absolutely jammers. They were queing there from before 3am I was told.

Anyway, 1hr queing to get in, 10 mins to to get what I was looking for. 1hr on the Q to pay. Saved approx 150 on actual marked price ( which were over the € odds anyway ).

One thing I will say.... they are a bunch of animals. Particularly the women; They were taking anything they could get their hands on as soon as they entered the shop and then scurrying off to a dark recess to trawl through their stock, in packs, passing out items between one another, disgarding what was not required ( just basicall f**ked on the floor at their feet ), and then off to the tills. Savages.

The staff will definitely earn their few shillings today. I dont envy them.
