Thought I'd buy a few SHMUPPY SHMUP SHMUPS on the train home. Decided to join the recently hacked world of Steam.

I bought the complete Gundemonium Collection, Razor 2 and Satazius to kick off the yulesque-SHMUPFEST.

Now, besides those, are there any other smutty looking SHMUPS to buy on this recently hacked store?

The entire Valve collection. Portal, Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike and every single thing containing the phrase 'Half-Life'.

No, they are not shmups, but Gudemonium can **** right off when Valve are around.

Here for the price of nine pints: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/7930/?snr=1_7_suggest__13 Might be cheaper later on in the sale.

Thank you Mr. U, I have puhroozed your vintage, top-shelf selections and may avail of these events/goods and/or products shortly. :)

Well going by the insinuation inherent in your OP that this is your first venture into Steam, it reads to me as if you have yet to experience those glorious games.

It is your goshdarned right as a gamer to rectify that! Steam is not a place for many shmups. It is a place for Valve games that happens to have other stuff too.

I have the Orange Box! :o

A good start, but Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead 1+2 are mandatory!

I'd recommend waiting it out and seeing how the sale plays out - the golden rule with them is to never buy anything unless it's a daily offer (Portal 2 was less than a fiver yesterday) or otherwise wait 'til the last day!

Also remember to register your humble bundle for meaningless achievements and leaderboards. Huzzah!

Oh cool, didn't know HIB was interlinked in that way. Thanks for the tip Mr. U.

I love Portal (yes I do like games other than shooting games! :D). I play that more than any of the other games on the Orange Box.

Does Phibsborough have acheivements for Steam? Going to pop that game open tonight and give it a lash. :)

Jamestown does indeed reward you with small little pictures when you achieve certain tasks. Got the Legendary vaunt combo one yesterday, after a nerve wrecking sixty seconds. Now for Judgement difficult

Cool, will crack that game open soon and give it a bash!

Portal 2 was going cheap and missed it? :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Apparently so, seems I joined Steam a bit late!

I LOVE Satazius, it's like Darius, even the opening titles are similar. Gundemonium games are great fun though surely those hitboxes are only one pixel!

Haven't cracked open Phibsborough yet, saving that until last. :)

    Feckin sales :(
Although I should still have 2 copies of L4D 2 to gift. I'll double check this on the morrow

Still haven't cracked open Phibsborough. Controlling these games with keys is super awkward. Can I connect my Hori EX via USB to my laptop?

Any special software I need to map buttons and the stick? Or would I be better off buying a dedicated PC arcade stick? If such a thing exists.

A wired Xbox360 pad should work or any of the 360 USB sticks. I usually use the SFIV:TE stick and don't need any mappers for it. I'm guessing if you can connect your preferred pad/stick to the PC via USB or some adapter then worst case is you might need something like xpadder.

Cheers Antoine! I'll give that a bash tonight (after a bit of Mazinger Z!). Dying for a bit of Phibsborough, looks awesome. :)

How did you manage to get Phibsborough from Jamestown? Maybe a silly question considering the mad words you come out with. :pac:
Nice get on Mazinger Z, my two USB extension cables received this morning don't quite top that. :)

Hori stick does - theoretically - work on PC although is of course never as easy as that! Problem is the stick isn't mapped to the analogue stick so that it confuses some games, and Jamestown is one of em because of its odd key mapping system.

If it doesn't work straight off - it might, you never know with MS - download a key mapper to sort it out. But I've managed to get it up and running on OSX so it's certainly doable!

Cheers, Mr. U, I shall whip my stick out tonight and thrust it in to my laptop. Give that Phibsborough yoke a good going over. :)

    @Antoine 'Patisserie' 76: Cheers sir. :)

How does one avail of the Phibsborough DLC on Steam if you didn't buy it on Steam?

Haven't tried them myself but don't you get Steam codes or something to register the game on Steam? J_U probably knows more.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 30,337 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

Haven't downloaded it yet but it seems to be just a matter of buying the DLC from the store

There's also an option in one of the in-game menus to do it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,328 ✭✭✭Pyongyang

Mr. U, you are really spoiling me with your technical Steam prowess! Cheers.

I did try to just buy it from the web store, but it says Phibsborough isn't in my library/didn't purchase it on Steam. I'll try the in-game menu.

Of note, Zeit 2 is on Steam, just noticed that now. Another to add to the list of Steam shooting games. :)

Just stumbled upon this thread by accident which is great as I was gonna start up a very similar one.

I'm completely new to Steam myself and so far have picked up Amnesia, Dark Fall and have almost completed a download of LFD2. Would anyone have recommendations of good survival horror/detective games?
