Petition to privatise Thatcher's funeral

    Gave me a laugh anyway:
Thatcher state funeral to be privatised

    Responsible department: Cabinet Office

In keeping with the great lady's legacy, Margaret Thatcher's state funeral should be funded and managed by the private sector to offer the best value and choice for end users and other stakeholders. The undersigned believe that the legacy of the former PM deserves nothing less and that offering this unique opportunity is an ideal way to cut government expense and further prove the merits of liberalised economics Baroness Thatcher spearheaded.

Someone set up a petition here to do it: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/18914

Not her greatest fan but I'd assume even she would see the irony in this.

Nah there's at least 6 hours air in a coffin if she takes shallow breaths.

never actually saw the point in state funerals
i can't imagine there being a prime minister/president in a western nation who wouldnt be able to afford a funeral

good idea imo, if ridiculously misguided on the part of the anti thatcher morons

Why is there so much hatrid for her? She was tough on Irish terrorists and trade unions. I don't really give a f**k about that.
What about Blair, and Bush, wiped out 100s of thousands of Iraqis, our plight and a few jobless in the 80s pales in comparison to that. Obama trying to announce the withdrawal of troops during the week was pathetic, trying to make it sound like they've achieved something.

On certain "terrorists". With others, she was happy that the British state armed, funded and supplied them with intelligence.

She was also really good mates with a certain Chilean terrorist.

I just don't know why Irish people have such hatrid for us. Look at the situation Bertie et al have us in now, and we're all f**king lethargic about it.

Surely Alan B'stard MP aka The New Statesman is behind all this?

And we allowed American jets to land in Shannon, on their way to murdering women and children in Iraq. I like how you people single out your hatrid for no reason.

    Maybe we dislike all three.

Amazing that some Irish people glorify her.

The only people that hated her more than the Irish were the English.

You've used 'us' twice to describe two different peoples. Which 'us' are you?

No reason? The thread is titled "Petition to privatise THATCHER's funeral", so that should give you a clue as to why the responses seem to be focused on thatcher.

Yes, blair and bush are asshole's of the highest order. We get it.

I just dont understand, with all the tyrant politicians we have, including our own, why she is singled out as a hate figure. I think it's because she's a woman and it makes people's masculinity uncomfortable to be honest, this is probably the root cause.

I don't think it is, I think the idea of a stern strong woman in power frightens men and seems to start all this chest beating and rabbling that goes on when she's mentioned.

:p:p Margaret Thatcher has been admitted to hospital.

I would have thought that, with the hostility towards the occupy movements and anyone with a non-capitalism leaning, she would have been more popular.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

In what way is he singled out? I would say her contemporary of the time president Regan probably gets more overall hatred. Or maybe gorbachov?

There's plenty of world leaders who have been hated more than maggie before her time, during, and after.

I just dont understand why you think she's been singled out and making it a gender issue is nonsense.

Yeah but surely she'd be looking for maximum value for the tax-payer so leaving it until she's dead might cost the tax-payer too much.

    Just sayin.

Ronald Reagan planned his multi-million dollar funeral meticulously AFAIK. Why couldn't she?
