unless a car has been properly prepared BEFORE being laid up for a long time, there would be a lot of work need doing to that car before being recommissioned. might be in super nick though and its the rarer 850 V12 and they all have a fair following

uhhh that white powder on it....it isn't dust

Let's call Mick from "Wheeler Dealer " ... surely he's going a make a big bang with !

I wonder is it the same car he drove to Charlie Haughey's house in 1991 to give him 210,000 pounds in.

Is Mick from Wheeler Dealers the Irish, pikey cousin of Mike from Wheeler dealers?

Gerry Ryan had two 840's, were prone to the same white powder effect. :D

That car could be a fantastic example. Could also be a money pit.
He would have owned that around the time he was off the rails. Nice bit of history :D

Would be sold in seconds if he put it on www.bendunne.com

I know a fella who bought his old Porsche 911 years back, when he got it delivered he'd left his golf clubs in it and a very expensive set at that!! You never know what'd be in the boot of that yoke :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,626 ✭✭✭✭coylemj

Would have thought Ben was more of a CL type. How D F did he ever fit into a 911?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭maxfresh

My god  why do people put up ads like this give the car a quick clean before the photos are taken , this and photos taken at night p**s me off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

You'd want €8k I reckon to get that 8er in top nick. It would need a serious overhaul after sitting up for so long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,158 ✭✭✭✭Berty

Bet that "New Car Scent" air Freshner is not so fresh anymore.

Way overpriced anyway. I know Dunnes need to make money to pay for the bag tax court case loss but this is a lot of money for a car worth far less.

Is that paint on the top of the tyre? If so, why was this car re-sprayed(badly if it got the tyres) or am I wrong?

Nah it's just a bit of Strawberry Motion lotion, goes well with the hokes.

Car doesn't appear to have been looked after while laid up - apart from all the dust the front wheel is flat , I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of work was required to get that moving again.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,791 ✭✭✭JJJJNR

Beer baron is on to something, its a bit too "aladdins cave" i.e. tided up look at how shiney the lower end of the body is (respray) . Its been left in a dusty area for a couple of weeks to look like its authentic, I'd say its clocked also by that mileage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭jamieh

I know the previous owner - fantastic car (a few years ago obviously).

He changed it for a 645Ci.

Is that overspray on the rear arch and tyre?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,714 ✭✭✭no1beemerfan

If it WAS fine before being laid up and it was in that shed the whole time then it might not be so bad. It does look like overspray on the back tyre though. Worth nearer to €3k today I'd say. Fantastic engine in them.

Obviously a gift from BD, as the only place one can put Golf Clubs in a Porker is by the passenger seat!

There was an LS400 for sale on donedeal a while ago that was advertised as being owned by him too. I don't see why it makes a difference.

Those of you who can remember the Charlie Haughey Tribunals will recall that Ronan Collins, of RTE, had a Lexus LS400 provided by Dunnes Stores. Collins, apparently, got the car in return for performing a number of shop openings for Dunne each year.

Tales of Dunne's golfing wagers and his generosity abound. He played for big stakes and was more than generous to a lot of people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,237 ✭✭✭darragh o meara

You would think that. The car was bought in an auction and delivery arranged the seller, car was delivered to the fella I know and when he rang about the clubs he was told they shouldn't have been with the car and they'd be collected. They never collected them.

I remember seeing this car a number of times in Mount Merrion in the early 90s, I assume Ben was visiting his sister Margaret Heffernan who lives in that area.

It is genuine Irish 850i from new, probably the first in the country, so the provenance has got to be worth something.

I thought it was Chris de Burgh who had the first E31 here, I herad it had to be taken to the UK for servicing. Ben Dunne also had a R129 500SL at the time, this was shortly after the Florida incident.

I'd spend 2k on it as a donor car but it would draw much anger from the 8er community.

Being the current owner of a 1997 840ci sport, I must admit that if I saw that go for 2k, I'd be most surprised!!!
I saw this ad the other day and really didn't know what to make of it.
"giveaway @ 5500 ono...." A giveway, I think not. I can only guess but imagine some serious dosh required to bring this one back to life. Having bought a reasonably well looked after 840 nearly 4 years ago, and after spending the guts of 6-7k on it since, it's now in pretty top condition (if I do say so myself!! :D). Therefore, an 1991 850i, sitting for 5 years, with some dodgey paint on the rear.........I wouldn't actually pay owt for it. Still, someone may think differently! If it was an 850csi (not that it was around in 1991), it might be worth a punt!

    It does have pop-up headlights.

By the way, what's with the bag of screws/bolts etc on the ground under the front bumper which has no dust on the top but the bonnet is COVERED in it?
