Jungleflasher not recognising DVD drive.

Right the title really says it all. I'm using usbpro, ck3i and the probe 3 and I'm trying to flash my LiteOn back to stock to update the dashboard but Jungle flasher isn't recognising my DVD drive. It recognises the usbpro and the ck3.

The funny thing is it was recognising the drive already today when I was using the normal DVD cable to connect the ck3i to the DVD drive but when I switched it with the Probe3 it stopped working. And now it wont work with either cable.

I think I've mentioned everything there. Any idea where I'm going wrong?

what I/O port do you have JF set to ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 394 ✭✭clonadlad

Tried it with the top of the case off already and still the same.

I tried all the I/O ports, no luck either. I dunno what's going on.

    Anymore ideas?

I have had a few like this lately, try ejecting the drive in and out with jungleflasher open.

I'm a newbie so I don't know how to eject it. I know there's a button on the ck3i but that doesn't work whenever I press it.

That's odd, the eject button should work, your problem could be the ck3i

It's brand new. All the LED lights on the ck3 seem are working if that's any indication? It was working already today which what's wrecking my head.

This is my first flash so I'm probably doing something wrong.

Just use the standard dvd cable as your going back to stock so you should already have the key so you do not need to probe the point. Even when your flashing back a custom firmware you will not have to probe the point as you already have your key.

Oh right sorry i just re-read and realised its not working with either cable.
Try using the console to power the drive. Yes i know some people say its not safe. Maybe it is maybe it isn't who knows but nobody has ever been banned from powering their drive with xbox.

I'm already banned so that's not a problem. The only problem is I don't have a clue what I'm doing really.

I use a tutorial on youtube that's simple but he uses a ck3 aswell.

So just connect the dvd drive to the xbox motherboard the way it is when it is normally conneted. And plug sata cable to dvd drive thats connect to X360USB Pro. And connect usb end of X360USB Pro to computer. Start xbox make sure component of composite cable is plugged into xbox but doesnt have to be connected to tv. Then start Jungleflasher. And just erase and flash and job done.

I can't seem to get that working at all with the xbox power. Seems a bit dodgey for some reason cause I don't know what I'm at.

I tried the old way with the ck3 again and I noticed the the sata port on the DVD drive seems a bit loose. I took off the top of the drive and had a look but I don't want to break anything. There is a chip board(or whatever ya call it) covering the sata port so I cant see into that. Would it be advisable to take off that board and have a look or will I do more damage?

Does your drive work normal and play games and eject when it's back in your xbox.

I'm after putting it back together and the drive wont work. The green light power light flashes in the centre. The drive wont open either. All the cables are plugged in properly aswell.

Sounds like it's fúcked. Has this happened anyone else before or anyone know what to do?

Ah crap. What do you mean by putting in the power the wrong way round?

If I was able 2 get just a random drive off a friend will that work or does it have to be a lite on?

If you have a closer look at the power plug you will notice two "teeth" on the top and two on the sides, one each. Now have a look at the drive - you will see 4 cuts in the power connector. But still it is very easy to get it connected other way around.

As for other q - it has to be lite-on.

I'm confused. Are you talking about the white connectors that go into the DVD drive? So if I put that in the wrong way it could fry the drive? I don't think it can fit any other way though can it?

Yes, I literally got the key a few hours before the drive started acting up which is why I'm píssed off.

Is it definitely screwed or is there anyway to see what the actual problem is?

And is it easy to install a new lite on dvd drive?

Thanks for all the help so far!

Is there such a thing as a bad key?:p

I followed a tutorial online and what I have ended up with on my desktop is 5 files- key, inquiry, identify, serial and dummy. That's what I need yeah?

What kind of messages? All I did was extract the key because it was already flashed.

if you have your key you should be ok,
the video posted above will erase the key and try to salvage the drive if possible but if you do not have your key and you erase it your screwed, but your sort of screwed now if the drive will not read in jungle flasher or work in the xbox as is,

before erasing as in that video I suggest you outro the drive a few times and do a few power cycles to see if it appears in jungleflasher,

if you have a spare drive (any drive) I recommend flashing it with your key and see if it will play games, if it does your key is good and you can erase the lite-on and try to get it to read,

I have a few friends with red ringed xboxs so I'll have a search and see if any of them are lite on's and then I'll have a go at replacing the fúcked one. Thanks for the help!

Actually, how hard is it to use that video that massy086 posted? If I try this and it goes wrong wont I still have all the keys from the drive already so I will be back in the same situation I am now?

And also at the beginning of the video which file do I load as the original firmware .bin file? I have 5 files- key, inquiry, identify, serial and dummy- which one do I load?

And when he turns off the power to the drive on and off again does he just turn off the molex power? I use the power from my desktop so just switch that on and off I presume?

Sorry for all the stupid questions but I don't think I can handle the holidays without an xbox.:o

you load ur dummy file at the start in to source amd iextreme into target firmware and wen he turns off the power it is the on and off button on the ck3

also have you checked to see if you have a good key

I really don't have a clue! How do I know? Surely you cant have a bad key?

load the dummy file into jungle flasher and post the first 6 digits of the key

    Thanks so much man.

One final question. I want to return to stock firmware and update my dashboard. Should I use Pre 13141 or Post 13141? It's been a good while since I've updated the dashboard. It was probably the last mandatory one that was included on game discs a few months ago, like DIRT 3 or something.

OK. What can happen if I use the wrong one? I think it could be post 13141.

I don't think the ck3i is working now. All the LEDs are on but when I flick the power switch it wont turn off, it's just always on. And in that tutorial it tells me to turn off and on the power quickly. If I turned off the molex power instead would that screw everything up?

Yes you can switch off the molex power.
