Pledge for 2012

I pledge to make this my last "fat" Christmas.
I pledge to count the calories, go for the low-fat option and eat what and when my belly wants, not my eyes!
I promise to put an end to the "diet starts tomorrow" excuses.
I pledge to keep track of my diet and weight loss. I will inspire myself by how much weight I can lose when I take this seriously.
I pledge to get up off my bum. I will not sit at my desk all day everyday doing this masters. On days that I have no classes, I will get up and out and exercise.
This year, I will not buy myself any more size 16 clothes. I will wait til I can buy 14s, 12s...
I pledge to stop being unhappy with what I have and lacking the motivation to do something about it. This year, I will achieve it!

As a reward, if I achieve this, I will treat myself to a sun holiday in September (after the thesis goes in!) and I will wear beachwear and feel great!

Who's with me! New Year, New US!!

One tip I will give you is to buy clothes in size 16. If you have some new clothes and feel better about how you look that makes you FAR more likely to stick to a diet than if you just wallow in self-disgust. Most people can recognise the self-criticise -> wallow -> give up -> sod the diet cycle. It it way easier to avoid doughnuts if you feel fabulous about yourself in general than if you feel like a fat lump in old clothes.

I read in an old diet book about whether or not you were thinking about food on some of the happiest days of your life, of course not you were too busy being happy! Work on that and the dieting lark is a piece of cake.

Also, don't automatically think 'the low-fat' option is the best in terms of weight loss. A better rule of thumb is the 'simple food' option, food where you can detect each individual ingredient or better yet, food that is an ingredient, rather than composed of ingredients. Make ALL of your own food, from scratch if you can. If you simply make that change then you'll have to worry less about fat and carbs because you'll be making filling food and be totally in control of what you put in your body, that way you can even use butter, olive oil and avocados and still lost weight!

    Best of luck!!
