    Carroll.
At least we know what Torres can do. I still think he'll come back to form.
As for Carroll... he just will never be worth that pricetag EVER.

Also, Chelsea could afford to splash that money.
Liverpool couldn't to the same degree, which impacts more.

    Torres

    25 Games / 3 Goals

    Carroll

    19 Games / 4 Goals

    Their both ****e though

Carroll for me too, how did Newcastle con Liverpool into paying 35 million for him is beyond me, extortion of the highest order  At least Torres has world class attributes.

Can't believe no one has mentioned torres or Carroll yet!

Good player but that Villa are absolutely pathetic under McLeish I dont think any player could shine for them.

Robbie Keane didn't exactly set the world alight for us. I know he was only on loan but we did pay him some 60-70k a week. His miss against Blackburn in the third last game still gives me nightmares.

    It's Torres by a mile.

Carroll is looking bad right now but at least his best years are still ahead of him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,949 ✭✭✭Samich

Carroll was a panic buy in fairness.

Torres went to chelsea and there wasn't much time for 'pool to get a good replacement so they paid huge money for a big striker scoring the goals at the time.

Dalglish probably thought that if they didn't sign anyone and they struggled then everyone would be saying "oh they didn't replace Torres in January". So they spent a huge amount on an english player who was scoring loads of goals and thought it was worth the risk..

Torres wasn't playing well was he when he signed.

    Both shocking this season.

Torres is only 27, will be in the peak of his career for the next 3-4 years.

Thats not how the deal went.......Torres wanted to go to Chelsea and Liverpool wanted to make 15 million more for Torres than what they were paying for Andy Carroll....the original fee agreed was 20 million for Carroll but at the last minute Mike Ashley said he wanted 35 million....Liverpool then went to Chelsea and said they wanted 50 million for Torres and Chelsea accepted.

Liverpool will also save close to 17 million over th course of Andy Carrolls 5-year contract due to the wage difference between the two players.

BTW Torres has definitely been the flop transfer of the season for me.

Are they planning on inventing bionic hamstrings in the next 3-4 years?

I don't really buy that. A peak period for a striker is generally between 25-29.

Only if you rely on football's conventional wisdom - which is usually complete and utter rubbish - and completely ignore the glaring reality in front of you.

Torres is physically nowhere near what he was at the beginning with Liverpool, which is when he was at his peak.

That's assuming Andy Carroll stays with Liverpool for five years. You'd get good odds on that happening I reckon.

Carroll is still young and will get time, Torres was bought to be a 20 goal a season man straight away. We'll see who is sold first I suppose.

His peak age, yes. The peak of his career? Not bloody likely.

Torres definately, he wasn't on fire when Chelsea bought him. Carroll was bad but if you look at it, Torres was worth Carroll plus another player (who turned out very nicely).

Nasri has been woeful for City also.

Totally disagree. While he hasn't set the world alight he has still be quite decent just not as good as the likes of Silva etc. He's only one assist off equaling his record during his whole time at Arsenal.

Not so much a flop, but Bolton not selling Gary Cahill is a huge transfer mistake for me.

Dont believe everything you read :)
My point still stands, these claims were made by SOME Liverpool fans and somehow are accepted as fact by many without anything to back it up.

I don't if it was made up.....fair enough if it was just the one but i remember reading a few articles that went throught all the details!!

It's like saying that all the talk of Sneijder joining United in the summer was all made up because it was only the papers/TV talking ;)!!
