A commemorative turnout in Ireland for the patron saint of motorists, how quaint.

His oily skin and oily hair were his trade marks.

No argument there. He is/was just one of debatable many.

True enough. I dont think he'll find too many defenders.

Faux claims of Pedantry === lame cop-out excuse for factual inaccuracies

Lads we're getting massively off topic here. This is supposed to be a thread honouring the life and times of Muammar Gaddafi.

We opt for not doing so!

If you look at the explanation of 'grammar Nazi' it expressly includes the correcting of spellings.

    Your pedantry is tiresome Sir.

I will be at rest now.

It was held by a small number of socialists and republicans.

As far as I know it was organized by individuals and not any republican or socialist group. Incidentally the vast majority of socialists and republicans I know don't share the pro Gadaffi sentiments held by those who organized todays event.

legend RIP Colonel Gaddafi you died so we can live :)

speaks about Ireland's right to freedom from British rule.
In 1921 the British government divided Ireland against the wishes of the Irish people who wanted complete Independence from the UK.

Thread title makes it seem as if it was an official commemoration.

I might, I always was a fan of Gaddafi, especially his version of "Black Magic Woman". Really knew how to sling a six stringer.

Probably organised by the Shinners, as in a 'thank you' for the guns and money over the years.

Finally someone in this country decides to hold a commemoration for one of the greatest leaders of modern times. Resisted with the people of Sirte when they were under severe bombardment and without any supplies in a siege that lasted two months. While rebels bombed from all sides and NATO bombed from above the resistance was extremely brave from Gaddafi and armed civilians and army alike, it was when the ammunition has completely ran out that they attempted to flee to Gaddafi's fate.

While he was/is not the only war crimes leader that should be prosecuted (had he lived), he certainly does not warrant a celebration of his life or a commemoration.

you do know how much good he done in the muslim world as a mediator and got nations who we couldn't even imagine dealing with or hearing about but got them to sign the treaty of Tripoli, thus saving countless innocent lives.

theirs 2 sides to the coin... i guess whoever holds it shows the prettier side...
