Acid Reflux/Heartburn

    Hey,

Over the past 12 months my stomach has increasingly become more intolerent to alot of the foods I normally eat/drink in day to day life.

Does anyone know the reason as to why this problem has arisen only recently (i'm 25) and not always been the case?

Would it be down to a poor diet in the first place?

I have an extremely high metabolic rate so I never gain weight, well not yet anyway :) This basically gives me free reign over what I want to eat and not have to worry about putting on the pounds. Granted my cholesteral could become a problem. I dont eat fast food everyday but I would say it would be once or twice a week if I am honest.

After doing some research I did find that alot of the foods I currently eat do cause LES but why has it only recently become a problem with me? Could it be something more?

Also, is there anything I can do to reverse the symptoms so that i can go back to enjoying the food I've always eaten?

Any advice or opinions are appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Adam

Adzer. I suffer from the same symptoms but my problem is a medical problem.

I suggest you see your doctor about this problem and dont ignore it.

Alcohol, coffee ,greasy food are all culprits for causing acid reflux. Cut them out to start with, then book and appointment.

Cut out the foods that are mentioned above by gsxr1 or at least cut down and you should notice a big difference. I've also found eating a yoghurt everyday has made a massive difference to the heartburn and reflux I used to get. Rarely get it now unless I've been on the lash all weekend and didn't eat any yoghurts! But if it's a major concern to you get yourself to the doc for a check up.

you didn't start smoking did you? or drinking more heavily/regularly?

if you haven't changed any behaviour might need to see a GP

take digestive enzymes with all main meals or at the least some apple cidre vinegar (tablespoon in water).

Avoid all foods that cause you to feel bloated and reintroduce (wheat is a major culprit here but dont recommend putting it back in in any major way) slowly

    hi Transform,

have you any examples of digestive enzymes?

Now foods digestive enzymes are good. You take enough to feel 'heat' in your belly but not so much it actually gives you heartburn.

Bear in mind they may not work for you at all, but if they do, you only need a short course to do the trick.

Might want to get a breath test in the doctor for h. pylori too.

Damage to my esophageal sphincter and stomach due to Difine 75. 4 months and still not healed. The belly can do lots of things, but healing quick is not one of them. Its hell some days.
Stay away from those anti inflammatory meds. :(

Terrible pain and pressure in the chest like bad trapped wind, acid reflux, hoarseness in my voice and rawness in my belly and throat . If you have these symptoms then you should contact your GP .

My problems are straight forward but difficult to heal. I have to get a second scope down my neck to recheck next month. It is far from comfortable.

If I stray from a health diet , I pay with pain.

I suggest you see a doc and get advise on what and what not agrees with you.

I used to get crippling heartburn. It was my lifestyle though. Smoking, drinking and eating rubbish was the problem.

The doc prescribed me an acid inhibitor and it allowed me to continue with my life of decadence.

I don't take them much anymore because I quit smoking, cut back on the rubbishy food and drink less.

Ive been getting ulcers (3 in the last 6 months) from acid reflux gp thinks its stress thats doing it, im 31, ive put myself on a low acid diet, whcih i hate because i love tea. I dont suffer as such with acid reflux and really am only aware of it when i get my ulcer. Even though i can sometimes get heartburn when i bend over.

    Thanks for the response lads.

Thinking back on what has changed in my lifestlye since I started getting reflux....
I haven't really changed my diet as such. Ive always eaten what I wanted a gotten away with it. Perhaps now that I am living away from home I eat a few more take aways than before but thats about it. On the smoking front, I would never buy a pack but I sometimes steal a cig from my mates when I'm drunk. I also started smoking a bit more weed than lets say, 2 years ago. Grass can be killer on the throat sometimes.

Do you put tobacco in the weed? Also typical munchies food - crisps/biscuits/carby goodness tends to be quite a stomach acid promoter!

Yes I put tobacco in it. I found that using tobacco makes it harder to smoke than just using the weed alone

When I was younger I had really bad reflux. Went to consultant who did lots of tests and told me it was non ulcer or functional dyspepsia ( no obvious cause)

He told me to go and start lifting weights as that stimulated digestive system

Over time symptoms went away - can be something you grow out of

However it is worth getting it checked in case there is something causing it that needs to be treated like an ulcer etc
