    Where's the poll?

I think nothing happens. You're dead in the true sense of the word.

Well, if heaven is anything like earth, then they probablly all sit around and laugh at cute cats on the internet.

    This also happens in hell.

No need for a poll, after all its personal opinion as to what happens as no one knows.

its the same as before you were born, nothing. this seems to terrify some people.

I don't think it answers your question, but I've decided not to die, so there will be no change for me.

My residual energy, that is memories of experiences shared with family/loved ones will remain here until I'm forgotten over time, so I hope they're good ones. As for me, I just hope I see some nice bright comforting light and feel at peace before I slip away into nothingness.

    1. The world will cease to exist, as we're all just a figment of each other's imagination.

    2. The world keeps on turning, the sun will come out tomorrow & the Universe continues as normal, whether you existed or not... At last it's someone else's turn to mow the lawn.

That's what Hindus and Buddhists believe. A rickshaw wallah who is good an virtuous could be a maharaja next time round, or a rat if he accumulates a lot of bad karma during his life.;)

A man in Mumbai once explained it to me like this: "When fifty vultures die, they are reincarnated as a politician." :)

The clue to answering this question is by trying to remember what happened before you were born. What do you remember? Nothing. There's your answer

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,078 ✭✭✭Hal Emmerich

I know two peeps that "died", one for 3 minutes and one for 5 minutes before being brought back, one seen a white light that got Closer and closer and the other remembered nothing.

I hope their is something but...."shrugs shoulders"

A bright white light opens up in the sky and a staircase made of fluffy clouds extends down. A deceased relative or someone close comes down the fluffy cloud staircase to greet you and take you up to heaven. The angels start singing and playing trumpets and harps. You meet peter at the entrance of heaven. Takes your passport, fill out a few forms etc, all going well you'll be shown to your room, check out the tv channels, hot water in the ensuite etc.

Though, obviously, with that name you're getting none of that.

    Nothing - I hope
It's funny that if I believed that I will be surrounded by love in an afterlife I'll never find out really or want to realise I have to exist again if I do end up there why would I keep my consciousness if I can't take over any other possessions (if I say that my body is an object which stays on earth). I can't believe that if there was an after life I would be discriminated against based on belief or morals which vary from person to person and can't be prescribed.

I am spiritual now but even I feel like that is within me and within the universe and beyond that when not if (I keep forgetting its when not if D:) I pass away I won't be seeing, thinking or feeling so why would I exist as a being, I feel like my mind has constructed my soul I wasn't given it and it won't be passed on imo! and I don't think I'd like it to be I don't want to exist for more than 90 years never mind for eternity I don't want that and I dislike when people force it down my throat why would I want to "be" forever in any sense.

if you're muslim then allah sorts you out
If you're Hindu then Ghesnia sorts you out
If you're christian then Jesus sorts you out

& if you're not a dumbass then you'll rot, insects will eat your corpse and the circle of life continues

"You get tapped on the shoulder, but guess what? The party’s going on for ever; you have to stay. And not only that, but you have to have a good time – the boss says so.’

    He gives a slight shudder.

    'Anything eternal is probably intolerable."

So true. The tap on the shoulder at the party telling you it's time to go is what makes life precious. I find the idea of eternal life absolutely terrifying.

and on the fear of death:

as a wise man once said, you are not afraid of the time before you were born when there was nothingness, so why should you be any more concerned afterwards?

It's strange how when you're younger and believe in god and heaven etc. the thought of, instead, there being nothing when you die is quite scary.
After a few months of not believing, it turns itself around and the thought of living eternally in heaven becomes a terrifying prospect.. to me anyway.
