Looking forward to watching this over the weekend, great drama if McIlroy can get near the lead. Think he has to win and hope Donald finished 9th or worse to win the race to Dubai.

    Donald -2 and Rory -1 thru 7

Paul Lawrie early leader with a 65, good round too from Lowry 69 -3

    Scoring here

Zero chance Donald finishes outside the Top 10.

Love seeing Sergio with some confidence back.

His driving is a bit like mine atm, two wayward tee shots in a row

Pity bout the 7 on the 2nd for McIlroy, still doing well though. Donald really struggling off the tee

Feel bad for Luke, rorys on fire last few holes, he be in 2nd by 18 i think ;)

Great to see him back and would love to see him win a major, I wonder how good he would have been if he had won a major early in his career.

Looks like Rory is going to put the pressure on Luke if he keeps going like this for the next couple of days.

what a finish by Rory. -5 for last 6 holes. 30 on back nine. A 66 is a fair score when you have a bogey and double bogey in there on the card

Great stuff Rory.... and fair play to Shane Lowry. :)

A nice round of -3 leaves him tied 8th.

The rest of the Irish didn't fare so well, however, with Lawrie hitting +3 and Hoey, Clarke etc well down the field.

Hope they can all pick it up tomorrow.

That back 9 from Mcilroy was sublime... I could watch him all day when he's striking the ball like that. If his putting holds up like it did today he'll make a serious run at this!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭abouttobebanned

If Rory sorts out one or two things in his game he could become one of thsoe golfing favourites that are actually worth backing.

That was a super round out of Rory today, if his putter stays hot over the weekend he will be the man to beat.
Have to say it's great to finally see Sergio back where he belongs winning tournaments and being on contention again.

Tied 26 after day 1. Early days yet but if he continues to play like he did today he'll strugle to compete in this one. On the other hand he often has a quiet start to tournaments before delivering in the next 3 days. We'll see

Amazing finish to the round by rory today, doubt luke will be off the Tee like that tmrw and im sure he'l bounce back, otherwise he'l be lucky to make the cut let alone the top 10

Just watched the repeat there now on Sky, that was some display of putting on the back 9 by Rory, not often Luke's putting is a distance second place!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 259 ✭✭Borisss

Donald has never missed a cut on the European Tour.

Hopefully he shoots a 68 tomorrow and sets up an exciting weekend.

Ya, I saw that stat on sky sports today, unreal consistency considering he's been a pro since 2001! He has missed a few cuts at major championships but is impressive none the less...

Only back him when there is plenty of money on offer or else a major, he will definitely show up. Plenty of money around this weekend, guaranteed to win it. Donald was not messing when comparing him to Tiger.

McIlroy Grand Slam next year 150/1
    European Grand Slam 22/1

I Tiger was not in the picture I would be on them like a fly on hot **** :p

Anyone know why there are only 58 players when there should be 60? Did 2 drop out? I know Yang retired early so now there are 57.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,431 ✭✭✭dvemail

Justin Rose i think dropped out to be with his family, not sure who the second was though.

European Grand Slam ? Does that mean win the British OPen ?

Rory has not shown long term consitency to win Grand Slam.

I actually can't see anyone ever do it.

Didn't he miss the cut in this years Open or do sky not count that because it's on BBC?

    Lads,

Only for Rory and Sergio , this would be doing my head in. The adds on Sky , the half finished Ballymun in the sun houses around the course, the adverts on the course . The fact it is the end of the euro tour in Dubai. The floating advert in the water. The crowd sort of look like expats not golf fans . It is all a bit strange.

But only for Rory , I'd give it up .

Sorry moan over , on strong antibiotics , could be the drugs

Sorry, Lowry is keeping me happy too. :(:o:cool:

    Its excluding all Majors.

Very selective of sky, excluding major and world championship events Donald wouldnt be a prolific starter on European Tour. Probabaly plays 5 events a year outside of these in Europe.

Sign of the times, might as well get used to it. Dubai is where the pot of gold is. I miss the old Volvo Masters in Valderrama alright.

Just did a quick count there and as much as one third of the events on this years tour were held outside of Europe. Surely it'll be renamed as the Afro-Eurasian Tour soon :pac:

Was thinking something similar alright when Rory was playing with Luke and the size of the crowd following them was pretty pitiful even though it was a Thursday.
Couldn't help but think if the worlds no.1 and 2 were playing here in Ireland, Spain or the UK that the crowds would be massive and a much better atmosphere would be around the course.
Definitely the golf seems to follow the money nowadays. Case in point is that tourny being held in Thailand next week with the likes of Rory, Sergio, Westwood and Clarke all playing. Wonder how much cash was thrown their way to play in that event.

Wouldn't keep his card if that was the case.

Actually, he would. 4 Majors + 4 WGC events + 5 regular events = 13 which is the minimum required to maintain membership.

Even discounting majors it's still an impressive stat. He has made the cut in approx. 100 consecutive european tour appearances...

Fair play to Shane Lowry, T5 at the moment. If he can play solid tomorrow and secure a top 10 it would be a great end to the season for him!

    The adds on Sky

I'm glad I've been watching the reocrded program ( I'm on nights). Fast forwarding every 2 min. Can't imagine what it's like live.
