The dreaded words HP Touchpad Firesale 2!

HP’s $99 TouchPad Firesale Is Finally Back
The time's come, cheapasses: HP's $99 TouchPad firesale is about to make its triumphant return. Oh my god I've waited so long for this.

At 7:00 PM Eastern on December 11th, HP's eBay store is going to have the next and maybe last cache of cheap TouchPads. $99 16GB models and $150 32GB models will both be up for grabs. That's great! Here's the catch: The units are refurbished, not new—which isn't a bad thing, necessarily!—and all sales are final. But like, who's going to try to return a $99 TouchPad anyway?

Since the original cheapo stampede over the first TouchPad firesale, the Kindle Fire's shown up with its $200 pricepoint, and the PlayBook dropped to that price as well—and maybe even further soon. But the TouchPad is still the only full-sized tablet to get the here-take-it-please-oh-god prices, and webOS has gotten a few upgrades while HP shuffles its feet over what to do with the mobile OS. So basically, it's still a totally awesome deal and you should get one if you can. [TechCrunch]

Fantastic really, especially with the Android port running smoothly on them. Don't forget, these'll eventually have Android 4 - Ice Cream Sandwich - the proper Tablet Android Operating system.

Just a heads up from someone who got one first time round, the edges have started to crack in a couple of places (not wear and tear or dropping, it's hardly ever used tbh) and apparently it's a fairly common problem with them. Just an fyi.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 193 ✭✭seantorious

Amazon kindle fire or HP touchpad, that is the question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,314 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

If someone is buying one, buy two and I'll buy the 16gb off you for €120 which means you essentially get yours for €78. I couldn't be arsed constantly refreshing websites waiting for the price to drop only to be froze out when the servers die a death.

Is it HP eBay store in US only?

Interesting... How has everyone that got one first time round found them?

I have to say it’s great. There is the queue in the house every day to use it. The kids love the games (it has angry birds) and it’s great for surfing the net. Battery life is great and no sign of any wear and tear as a previous poster said. I bought on of the Ebay cases that were popular on here and its very good.

I put Android on it but there was a problem with the market so waiting to upgrade to the next version. Web OS is preferred over Android.

Bargain of the year for me and would definitely recommend.

I'm still using WebOS, really like it. I've overclock and done all the gubbins to improve performance, and I like the OS. The apps are certainly less than you'd get with an iPad but there continues to be a little trickle of them into the marketplace. It's a good little device, handles youtube etc. well. I mostly use it to read comic books, and it's great for that.

Amazon kindle fire or HP touchpad, that is the question.

A Touchpad without agrument (if you can get one)

    1.5GHz with webOS and CM7 for $99

    Versus

1.0GHz with locked down version of Android for $199

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭Jo Satan

An article on Tech Crunch gives this link

    http://stores.ebay.com/hewlettpackard

    .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 Joe-Bloggs

From the terms and conditions page on the http://stores.ebay.com/hewlettpackard/

    Shipping
The HP eBay store ships merchandise to street addresses within the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. Click here for complete information on shipping and delivery.

Link to the shipping page http://stores.ebay.com/hewlettpackard/Delivery.html

"We cannot deliver to P.O. boxes, APOs, FPOs, private mail box stores, United States territories, or addresses outside the 50 United States and the District of Columbia."

So looks like this one isn't going to be any good for us

will send it to the in-laws and get it in the new year. :D

Will they take an non US credit card as payment? If so might ask Cousin to use address.

That'll be the least of your worries. The 100 million odd others f5ing will be more of an obstacle.

100 million, I would be very surprised if anywhere near those numbers were online f5'ing

100,000 might be more like it, however you would be very lucky to get one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭groom

I wasn't being serious about 100M but even if there are only 100k it'll be tough to get one. Will be interesting to see if it makes eBay fall over.

Just curious, what software/app do you use to read comics on the Touchpad?

    Couldn't care less!

I only added it to see if they'd deliver here..

.. actually don't need another one.

Was gonna pick it up for a family member but probably won't be appreciated, and would prefer not to deal with another company I know nothing about.

I have a US mailing address with www.myus.com, I buy a lot of stuff online from websites that dont ship to Ireland. My last big order came in at $500, weighed 24lb and was sent by 2 day DHL for $120, customs hit me for €112.

I got some huge savings even though I was hit by shipping and customs. For example bought a Microscope for the kids, (Celestron 44340 LCD Digital LDM Biological Microscope) it cost $139.99 on amazon.com and £248.99 on amazon.co.uk ($139.99 = £89). The savings on the microscope made up for the shipping and customs. Also bought the Kindle Fire which isn't available here yet.

That all sounds way too complicated. All you need to do it marry an American and get stuff sent to your new in-laws and then you've got the added benefit of being able to get a green card.

for anyone interested in shipping from the US, myself and a few others have bought kindle fire's and touches from amazon in the US using www.viaddress.com (they use fedex to ship here) and afaik, none of the orders that have arrived were nabbed by customs at all (touch wood).

Going to the states week after next, soooo, think I'll get one. What time is it on Sunday, 12PM?

News today is that HP are going to release the WebOS code open-source to developers.

Can only be a good thing tbh!
