Heavy coffee drinker say approximately 10cups (maybe more) of strong coffee a day. I've had some on going tummy troubles so 4 days ago I decided to kick the habit. yesterday and today I'm as weak as a kitten and I'm feeling completely out of it. I went for an easy swim today and felt completely busted, about 90min after I got out of the pool my hr was 75bpm (normal would be <50). Also I've loads of water retention, if the scales are to be believed I'm gaining about 1kg a day.
Has anybody else exprienced this when giving up coffee? and if so how long does it last??

If I drink too much coffee it makes me nervous and tired. So I limit it to one cup a day. I drink green tea for breakfast and the rest of the day I drink water. Coffee can damage your stomach lining apparently, and much more seriously raises your heart rate. Stay well away from the stuff if you can!

I would never have believed that those innocent little cups of black stuff could be this bad, and sure everybodies doing it . I have some 100% columbia in the kitchen that'll I'll have to put in the bin :(.

Caffeine withdrawal (esp from 10 strong cups a day - !!! - thought I was bad!) can be pretty severe. Stick with it (if you deem it worth it) and it should wear off in a few days. Drink gallons of water (I know that's counter-intuitive if you feel you're suffering water retention, but it works, believe me).

What your experiencing is caffeine withdrawal. Take it easy and drink plenty of water. Give your body a chance to adjust.

I'm gona miss my usually mug with 2 tablespoons of coffee next monday morning. I'll probably be chewing my mint tea teabags by then, but it's good to know that this is "normal".

I gave up caffeine a few times, each time I had a headaches, no energy, sweats, really tired and irritable, symptoms lasted about a week but after that I felt great and was getting a brilliant nights sleep.

Caffeine withdrawl is horrific, especially going from what you drank to 0. It can take 2 weeks, took me over a week (i drink it again but moderated not compare to before). By far, worst withdrawls i ever had was from caffeine. It stimulates the nervous system remember

I was a one strong cup a day girl and the withdrawal was unbelievable. A whole week of being half asleep, insomnia, weird vivid dreams. Had to do it though as it was upsetting my tummy and causing my heart to race. Haven't had an issue since though.

Yep just to clarify there is a load of good stuff about moderate coffee drinking. I just had a bad reaction to the caffeine so I would advise people to cut it out if they have IBS or something like that.

So you're going from 10 cups to none? Don't mean to be rude but I bet you'll fail in the long term.
Decrease the amount a little slower and you'll get no withdrawal symptoms and more likely to succeed I reckon.

If someone had ibs it coffee would be the last place i would be looking tbh before i cut it out or at the last back to normal NON crazy amounts

You know you're right, I've already fallen off the waggon, but it was just one cup. In general I'm starting to feel better, a little headaches for the last day or two. Work next week will be the make or break, I use coffee as an excuse to escape my desk, so if I can break that habit I think I'll have it licked.
The tummy trouble only kicks in when I'm running hard and at exactly 5km, now I haven't been out for a hard run so can't confirm if this has solved it, but as soon as I do i'll report back.

I've also dumped the crappy carb and am I'm craving carbs like crazy, I'm beginning to think most of this stuff might be in my head!

....is caffeine that bad for you?! I used to drink a lot of coffee at one point last year, stopped. Too much made me feel sick. Didn't realise it was really bad though....I keep telling myself one latte is grand...

Two much of anything is bad. Coffee is quite safe in moderation. Just cut down to two cups. It makes me workout better.
