  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,381 ✭✭✭✭Allyall

Yeah, if they catch it :)

But still not too bad? At €138 ish?

should avoid the customs if they ship according to their eBay spiel. would assume we'd get delivery from UK

Now Pandawill’s Oversea warehouses are available in USA, UK and Austria.
And will be open to different countries and areas in the near future. So some items will be shipped in USA,UK,and Austria if you are the buyers nearby.

Advanced is ARM, and has better compatibility with most apps.

Basic Doesn't seem to be as such a good deal, but still, may be worth getting..

Basic has a newer version of android. Can the advanced version be rooted for ICS?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,233 ✭✭✭Justin10

No only the basic can be upgraded to ICS

    Niope. That's Gingerbread.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_%28operating_system%29#Version_history
2.3 Gingerbread refined the user interface, improved the soft keyboard and copy/paste features, improved gaming performance, added SIP support (VoIP calls), and added support for Near Field Communication.[40]

3.0 Honeycomb was a tablet-oriented[41][42][43] release which supports larger screen devices and introduces many new user interface features, and supports multi-core processors and hardware acceleration for graphics.[44] The first device featuring this version, the Motorola Xoom tablet, went on sale in February 2011.[45][46]

3.1 Honeycomb, released in May 2011, added support for extra input devices, USB host mode for transferring information directly from cameras and other devices, and the Google Movies and Books apps.[47]

3.2 Honeycomb, released in July 2011, added optimization for a broader range of screen sizes, new "zoom-to-fill" screen compatibility mode, loading media files directly from SD card, and an extended screen support API.[48] Huawei MediaPad is the first 7 inch tablet to use this version [49]

4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, announced on October 19, 2011, brought Honeycomb features to smartphones and added new features including facial recognition unlock, network data usage monitoring and control, unified social networking contacts, photography enhancements, offline email searching, app folders, and information sharing using NFC. Android 4.0.1 Ice Cream Sandwich is the latest Android version that is available to phones. The source code of Android 4.0.1 was released on November 14, 2011[50]

pity it doesnt have bluetooth. Looks like some developers are trying to incorporate drivers for an external dongle but to no avail yet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭heid

Seems ICS will be available for advanced early next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 381 ✭✭bricky06

I am well aware of this - my point was that the front of the box lists the OS as 2.3.4 and has froyo written underneath it!

going to order this, see great things online about it

Would it be better to get this now, or wait till ICS is bundled with this.

Can upgrade to ICS later on (Nowish), with Novo7 Basic. On Slatedroid, (Link above) They make a point of stating that they are two different tabets, the Advanced doesn't state when it will get ICS, but with all the people modding out there, i'd imagine sooner then later.

Some info here (I didn't read it all TBH. ) LINK

    Now aint that to question..

A lot easier to get a hold of i would have said! :D

But seriously, i'd still be thinking the touchpad would be the more premium product, simply because it was meant to be €400 initially... As well as that, the touchpad is 10" so a lot more screen real estate...

The advanced does look like a nice deal. This is about the level tablets need to be getting to to overthrow the ipad..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,977 ✭✭✭johnny_adidas

Touchpad looks like a much better screen and 2" bigger at that. would love to compare the two side by side in advance but guess this will do me as I dont think i could face the mayhem for a touchpad on sunday

There doesn't seem to be a stable version with market yet, but updates seem to be released very often.

Pretty it only can read crappy ebook formats. Does anyone know if apps can be downloaded to read better format ebooks?

Also is the battery life any good?

Lads, question for anyone who has a tablet!

What are the advantages of one of these as opposed to just using a smart phone or laptop?
I ask this as i use my laptop and phone the whole time. I would consider buying one of these if i could justify it.

    Regards.

Well, they have an excellent ebay rating. I paid with paypal, so any problems and I will be filing a dispute fairly sharpish.

I preordered this yesterday but have sent an email to find out what batch I am in. In regards the accessories, looking at which case will fit, does this need a screen protector or does this have gorilla glass etc?

I have a few of these tablets, and they are very good, few minor issues but nothing that cannot be sorted fairly quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 737 ✭✭✭christo82

Is everyone buying the Advanced version?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,012 ✭✭✭eamonnq

I got both, but ICS is now available for the advanced version and I would think this would be the better buy. Might be selling one shortly!!

Got ICS installed on the NOVO7 Advanced, looks good, a few minor bugs apparently but is working well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,012 ✭✭✭eamonnq

Screen protector will stop the screen from being scratched, up to you whether you need one or not

picked up the ARNOVA 10 G2 10" Android Tablet Capacitive (Cortex 1GHz) today for €170 but still have one of these in the first batch due to be posted tomorrow.

is the arnova better? obviously would prefer the 10" screen but not at a huge difference in performance. pros cons anyone?

EDIT _ Ainol now cancelled. God the screen on the arnova is huge. At a quick play around it seems a fantastic bargain (hmv). Very responsive, looks great. Jealous ill be handing it over as a gift :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭lemd

got my novo 7 today, im very impressed overall. touchscreen is very responsive and interface is fast. it handles all the usual apps well, android market was preloaded and works well.

Downsides are no gps or bluetooth but i knew that before i bought it. It also has no compass which makes google sky useless. the screen res and the viewing angles are a little on the low side but still very acceptable. the wifi is a bit weak too only getting full reception in the same room as the router.

I have listed more cons than pros here but for the €130 each (bought 2 from itabletpcshop.com) including getting caught for customs it is an absolute bargain.
